Abstract

The safety device prevents fork lift trucks lifting loads in excess of their safe working load. A bridge type pressure transducer measures the pressure in the hydraulic cylinder which provides the lifting force. The output of the bridge transducer provides electrical input to a differential amplifier whose output drives in turn a threshold detector circuit, the threshold being adjustable with a potentiometer. If the preset threshold is exceeded an electric signal from the output of the threshold detector drives a voltage amplifier circuit which in turn feeds the coil of a relay having contacts provided to activate a visual or audible signal and operate a hydraulic pressure release to prevent operation of the lifting device.
