Abstract

An injection moulded plastics bottle cap has sides (5) forming a hollow cylinder, closed at one end by a dished top (4). On the inner surface (7) of this is a short cylinder (8), its perimeter formed with an outward projecting lip (9) of thinner section. The inner surface of the sides has a thread (6), similar to that on the bottle neck (3), covering only the area near the top. When assembling onto the bottle, the projecting lip first contacts the rim (10) of the neck. A downward push deforms this into the neck (2) to form a seal. This engages the threads and the cap can be screwed tight.
