Abstract

A safety and easy to remove and reusable bedding system includes a waterproof pad or sheet that is attached to a fitted sheet. The removable liner of the present invention seeks to reduce the risk of sids and bedsores by providing a snug liner. The pad can be changed, cleaned and replaced more easily and often without the need to regularly lift the mattress.

Mattress toppers, sheets, or pads are widely used to cover mattresses. Comforters, sheets and pads come in a variety of styles and serve several different purposes. Some provide extra cushioning and support for the sleeper, while others act as an extra layer, keeping the mattress itself clean.

Some people, including infants and bedridden persons, have difficulty controlling their bowels or bladder and as a result soil their mattress or the top components of their mattress (ie, comforter, sheet, and/or padding). Because of this, the top component of the mattress may need to be replaced multiple times a day. Arranging a tight-fitting comforter, fitted sheet, and/or pad on a mattress is laborious and time consuming. This is especially true for nursing staff who dedicate their own precious time to this task.

Furthermore, the fit and design of these top components is very important depending on the user of the bed. For cribs, specific safety issues must be considered in the design. Design for the prevention of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is paramount. SIDS is the leading cause of death in the United States for infants aged one month to one year. SIDS is not a condition or a disease. More precisely, it is a diagnosis given when a child under one year of age dies suddenly and no definitive cause can be found after a death scene investigation, autopsy, and review of the child's medical history have been performed. SIDS can strike without warning, making it a particular source of parental insecurity. Currently, approximately 2,300 infants die from SIDS each year in the United States. SIDS most commonly affects infants aged one to four months, and ninety percent (90%) of cases involve infants younger than six months.

Given the risk of SIDS, as well as other aesthetic considerations, there are many aspects to consider when selecting a bedding component (pad, mattress, comforter, comforter, etc.). Thick or loose comforters, sheets, and/or padding may interfere with a baby's breathing, especially if the baby's face is pressed against or near these items. Therefore, it is imperative that the pad or mattress fits properly in the crib. Any gaps or holes may be dangerous to the baby as airflow near and around the baby's head may be reduced. The crib pad or mattress should also be firm. Soft mattresses conform to the shape of a baby's head or face, increasing the risk of suffocation. It is also important that there is no loose bedding or anything in the bed that might increase the risk of snares, suffocation, or strangulation.

Another important consideration in bedding design is the effect of bedding on people who may not have a lot of mobility. Pressure ulcers, also known as bedsores, are skin conditions that commonly occur when a person is unable to redistribute pressure on their body. Bed sores are particularly common in elderly patients, and are especially troublesome in old age, since the healing of bed sores slows down as a person ages.

In the field of geriatrics, pressure sores are difficult to avoid, especially in the frail elderly and those confined to wheelchairs. Although the primary cause of bedsores is prolonged pressure on a localized area of the body, bedsores can also be caused by a combination of pressure and friction. For this reason, a firm fitted sheet is crucial in preventing bedsores for people with limited mobility.

Another consideration is that the elderly and disabled who lack mobility may want to change their own bedding, but need a design that makes it easy for them to do so.

Therefore, there is a need for a safe, easily removable and reusable waterproof pad that alleviates if not overcome the disadvantages of the prior art.

Contents of the invention

The present invention relates to a safe, easily detachable, and reusable upholstery device secured to a mattress. The removable pad of the present invention provides a snug pad to reduce friction caused by loose sheets and bedding. The liner can be changed, cleaned, and replaced frequently. In one embodiment, the pad is a waterproof pad that covers only the area of the mattress immediately adjacent the user's buttocks and pelvis. This allows the user to remove the pad from one fitted sheet and secure it to different sized fitted sheets in different orientations as desired. In this manner, the user can use the same pad for different sized mattresses. Furthermore, the invention disclosed herein allows the user to remove bedding without the need to formally lift the mattress or maneuver the sheet around the corners of the mattress. Therefore, the present invention is particularly beneficial to the elderly and disabled persons with limited manual dexterity.

According to a first aspect of the invention, the present invention provides a removable liner set for a bed comprising: a fitted sheet constructed and arranged to be secured around a mattress, the fitted sheet having a first a top surface adjoins a second top surface of the mattress, and a first bottom surface adjoins a second bottom surface of the mattress; a pad constructed and arranged to cover a substantial portion of the second top surface of the mattress; and a first fastening means for effectively connecting the pad to the fitted sheet.

According to a second aspect of the present invention, the present invention provides a removable liner set for a bed comprising: a fitted sheet constructed and arranged to be secured around a mattress, the fitted sheet having a first A top surface adjoins a second top surface of the mattress, and a first bottom surface adjoins a second bottom surface of the mattress, wherein the fitted sheet covers a substantial portion of the mattress; a waterproof pad is constructed and arranged to cover The portion of the second top surface of the mattress, and has a bottom waterproof layer, a middle absorbent layer, and a top fabric layer; a first fastening device is used to effectively connect the waterproof pad to the fitted sheet; wherein due to The first securing device is mounted on an edge of a third bottom surface of the waterproof pad, the waterproof pad is substantially immovable along the mattress; and wherein the waterproof pad is positioned in close proximity to a user's buttocks and pelvic region .

The present invention provides an alternative to both bed sheets and mattresses. The mattress properties described herein prevent possible soiling of the underlying mattress. If the mattress becomes soiled, it can simply be unwrapped from the sheet it is attached to, washed, and reused. Additionally, the present invention provides a detachable sheet and waterproof pad arrangement that allows a user to purchase a single waterproof pad that can be used for multiple sized beds.

Figures 1 to 9 show schematic diagrams of various embodiments of the invention, which will now be described in more detail.

Referring to FIG. 1 , the present invention relates to a pad 120 designed to cover an entire or substantial portion of a mattress 100 . The mattress 100 can optionally be supported by a bed frame (not shown), for example, a crib (not shown).

The mattress 100 is covered by a fitted sheet 110 . The fitted sheet 110 can be designed to cover only the sides of the mattress 100 and the edges of the top surface, as shown in FIG. 1 , or it can be designed to cover the entire top surface of the mattress 100 . The fitted sheet 110 can be secured to the mattress 100 by various means, described in more detail below. Without limiting the foregoing, the means of securing the fitted sheet 110 to the mattress 100 can include means known in the art, including elastic strap arrangements that wrap around and secure the bottom surface of the fitted sheet 110 to the mattress The base of 100.

The fitted sheet 110 has a first fastening device 130A, 130B which fastens the pad 120 to the fitted sheet 110 . The first fixing device 130A, 130B can operate through various mechanisms. For example, a hook and loop fastening mechanism such as Velcro ^™ could be used.

The complementary top 130B of the two-part fastening covers around the bottom surface of the pad 120 such that the bottom 130A of the two-part fastening on the top of the fitted sheet 110 has a corresponding top 130B on the bottom of the pad 120 .

In one embodiment of the present invention, a hook and loop fastening mechanism is used as the first fastening means 130A, 130B to attach the pad 120 to the fitted sheet 110 . The hook portion of the hook and loop securing mechanism can be the bottom 130A of the two-part securing device, and the loop portion of the hook and loop securing mechanism can be the top 130B of the two-part securing device. The two-part fastening means 130A, 130B can use a strip of hook and loop fastening mechanism, or a continuous strip of hook and loop fastening mechanism on each edge of the mattress 100, or as readily understood by those skilled in the art. Additional configuration for fixed sections. The use of such a hook and loop securing mechanism provides the user with a sleep device that is substantially immovable, and further provides an easily removable and replaceable upholstery device. However, any other alternative securing means known in the art may be used to provide a tight and snug fit between the pad 120 and the fitted sheet 110 .

Alternative fastening means may include a zipper means, a knot means, or buttons. Furthermore, the first fastening means 130A, 130B need not be limited to the edge of the fitted sheet 110 or the edge of the pad 120 . On the contrary, the first fastening means 130A, 130B can cover the entire top surface of the fitted sheet 110 and the entire bottom surface of the pad 120 . This embodiment of the invention will greatly increase the immovability of the pad 120 when secured to the fitted sheet 110 . However, in one embodiment of the present invention, the first fastening means 130A, 130B are deliberately mounted on the edges of the pad 120 and the fitted sheet 110 to create a substantially immovable pad 120 and avoid holes. , gaps, or other openings.

In one embodiment of the present invention, the cushion 120 is composed of a single upholstery layer and a fastening device. Without limiting the foregoing, materials that may be used in the construction of the pad 120 include nylon, polyester, cotton, rayon, bamboo, rayon, linen, and silk.

It should be understood that the fitted sheet used in any of the embodiments of the present invention may be designed to be waterproof such that the fitted sheet has a waterproof layer, similar to the waterproof pad described in FIG. 2 . More specifically, the fitted sheet can be made of waterproof material. In this case, the liner may not include a waterproof layer. To clarify further, the fitted sheet may include waterproof material such that the construction of the pad does not require any waterproof material. However, such alternatives provide water resistance.

Figure 2 shows another embodiment of the invention. This embodiment uses a waterproof pad 200 instead of the liner 120 (as shown in FIG. 1 ).

As in the embodiment of the invention shown in FIG. 2 , the mattress 100 is covered by a fitted sheet 240 . The waterproof pad 200 is fixed to the fitted sheet 240 by a first fixing device 250 . The first fixation device 250 may operate in the same manner as the first fixation device with reference to FIG. 1 as previously described in more detail.

The waterproof pad 200 may be constructed and arranged to completely cover the top surface of the mattress 100 and the top surface of the fitted sheet 240 . Alternatively, the waterproof pad 200 may only cover the top surface of the mattress 100 and the fitted sheet 240 . The waterproof pad 200 may have round or square corners. In one embodiment, the waterproof pad 200 is composed of three layers: a bottom waterproof layer 210 , a middle absorbent layer 220 , and a top fabric layer 230 . These layers can form a substantially unitary article.

It should be noted that the height and texture of the waterproof pad 200 are important, as pads that are too thick or too soft, for example, may cause discomfort and irritation to the user. Therefore, the total thickness of the waterproof pad 200, in one embodiment, is about 6 mm. In addition, the waterproof pad 200 may be intentionally stitched in a specific pattern to ensure that the middle absorbent layer 220 remains evenly distributed at a constant height or thickness. These design features further reduce the mobility of the middle absorbent layer 220 . Stitching patterns can be in a variety of ways, for example, stitching or quilting patterns, such as circles, diamonds, and squares, can be used, as will be apparent to those skilled in the art. Additionally, continuous or discontinuous stitching patterns are also available.

The bottom waterproof layer 210 of the waterproof pad 200 protects the mattress 100 and fitted sheet 240 that may be soiled underneath. The bottom waterproof layer 210 can be made of any type of water resistant or waterproof material. In one embodiment, the material used is a waterproof tent fabric such as a polyester with plasticized polyvinylchloride (PVC-P) blend. Other materials that may be used include ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), polyethylene vinyl acetate (PEVA), polyvinylacetate (PVA), polyvinylbutyral (PVB).

The middle absorbent layer 220 of the waterproof pad 200 provides the function of blocking feces or excrement produced by the person using the pad, and the middle absorbent layer 220 can be made of any type of natural or synthetic material that is hygroscopic. In one embodiment, the material used is a synthetic blend of polyester fibers and rayon.

The top fabric layer 230 serves to increase comfort and aesthetic appearance to the user. The top fabric layer 230 can be made of the same material as the fitted sheet 240 to match the color, texture, and design between the two and to make the appearance of the entire cushioning device aesthetically pleasing. Accordingly, the top fabric layer 230 may be made from any natural or synthetic fabric material. The material used in one embodiment is a polyester material for greater durability in everyday use. Other materials that may be used include nylon, cotton, rayon, bamboo, rayon, linen, and silk.

Additionally, the waterproof pad 200 may have an overall thickness anywhere from about one quarter (1/4) of an inch to about one half (1/2) of an inch. However, other dimensions are of course also possible.

FIG. 3 shows a pad set in which a mattress is covered by a fitted sheet 310 . A pad 320 is secured to the fitted sheet 310 with a first fastening means as described above. The top surface of the gasket 320 further includes a second fixing device (shown in FIG. 4 ) for fixing a waterproof pad 330 to the gasket 320 .

This second fixing means can act in substantially the same way as the first fixing means with reference to FIG. 1 . However, the second fixing means fixes the waterproof pad 330 to the liner 320 . Specifically, the second fixing device may be a fixing device composed of two parts, wherein a bottom is connected to the top surface of the gasket 320 , and a top is connected to the bottom surface of the waterproof pad 330 . The top and bottom of the second fixing device cooperate to fix the waterproof pad 330 to the liner 320 , so that the waterproof pad 330 will not move relative to the liner 320 .

In one embodiment of the present invention, the second fixation device is positioned on an area of the pad 320 that corresponds to the user's buttocks and pelvic area. This ensures that the most commonly soiled areas of the mattress are protected by the waterproof pad 330 from soiling. It also limits the size of the waterproof pad 330, allowing users to use the same waterproof pad 330 with different sizes of mattresses, sheets, and fitted sheets. In one embodiment, the waterproof pad has an approximate thickness of 6 millimeters, an approximate length of 30 centimeters, and an approximate width of 30 centimeters.

As noted above, the waterproof pad 330 may be sized to enable a user to use the same waterproof pad 330 for a number of different sized mattresses, fitted sheets, and fitted sheets. For example, when the user is an infant, the user may first obtain the present invention for use in a crib. When used in a crib, the waterproof pad 330 can cover substantially the entire portion of the mattress. Due to the age of the users, they will need a larger bed, for example, a single bed. Rather than having to purchase an entirely new set, the user can simply purchase a second fitted sheet and/or a second pad that corresponds to the size of the new mattress. The waterproof pad 330 can be fixed to the second fitted sheet or the second liner in one direction to ensure that the area of the mattress that is usually close to the user's buttocks and pelvis can be protected by the waterproof pad 330 . For example, a twin size mattress may have the waterproof pad 330 facing the center of the twin size mattress longitudinally. When the user decides to expand again to a larger twin or twin plus size mattress, the same waterproof pad 330 can be used for a third fitted sheet and pad corresponding to the new size mattress. In one embodiment, the fastening device is used to fasten the waterproof pad 330 to the third fitted sheet or pad facing laterally. This orientation ensures that the waterproof pad 330 when secured to the third fitted sheet or pad is positioned onto the mattress in close proximity to the region of the user's buttocks and pelvis. As such, the present invention discloses a device that allows a user to use the same waterproof pad 330 to multiple sizes of mattresses, fitted sheets, and pads. Furthermore, the present invention allows the same waterproof pad 330 to be used by different users with various sizes of mattresses, fitted sheets, and pads.

Those skilled in the art will appreciate that it is possible to reverse the order in which the waterproof pad 330 and the liner 320 are placed. In this inverted arrangement, the waterproof pad 330 will be secured to the fitted sheet 310 with a first securing means. The pad 320 will be attached to one of the waterproof pad 330 or the fitted sheet 310 with a second fastening means. This will allow the pad 320 to be removed from the bed without removing the waterproof pad 330 from the bed.

FIG. 4 is a more detailed schematic view of the removable liner device shown in FIG. 3 . As can be seen, the fitted sheet 410 is secured to the pad 420 with a first securing means 430A, 430B. In this embodiment, the first fastening device 430A, 430B may be a two-part fastening device, wherein a bottom 430A is connected to the top surface of the fitted sheet 410 and a top 430B is connected to the pad 420 underside. As previously described, the top and bottom of the first securing means 430A, 430B cooperate to secure the pad 420 to the fitted sheet 410 such that the pad 420 does not move relative to the fitted sheet 410 .

The waterproof pad 440 has a bottom waterproof layer 450 and is fixed to the top surface of the gasket 420 with a second fixing device 460A, 460B. The second securing means can act in substantially the same manner as the first securing means 430A, 430B.

As with various embodiments of the invention described herein, the fitted sheet is constructed and arranged to be secured around the mattress. The fixing mechanism for fixing the fitted sheet to the mattress will be described with reference to FIG. 5 .

FIG. 5 is a bottom view of an embodiment of a fitted sheet 510 secured to a mattress 100 of the present invention. As shown, the fitted sheet 510 has a bottom surface adjoining the bottom surface of the mattress 100 and a top surface adjoining the top surface of the mattress 100 . The sides of the mattress 100 are covered by the fitted sheet 510 , better shown in FIG. 6 . The fitted sheet 510 is equipped with a third fixing device 520 for fitting the fitted sheet 510 around the mattress 100 and around the bottom surface of the mattress 100 . The third fixing device 520 is configured to securely fix the fitted sheet 510 to the mattress 100 . As shown, the third securing means 520 may utilize an elastic band securing means.

In another embodiment of the present invention, the third fixing device 520 may be a single elastic belt or a zipper for fixing the fitted sheet 510 to the bottom surface of the mattress 100 . Other fastening means for securely fastening the fitted sheet 510 to the mattress 100 may also be used, including buttons, snaps, straps, and/or combinations of these fasteners.

In the embodiment shown in FIG. 5 , the third fastening means 520 includes a strap 530 fastened to parallel sides of the bottom surface of the fitted sheet 510 . As shown in FIG. 5 , the strap 530 can be fixed to the corner of the fitted sheet 510 . The strap 530 helps secure the fitted sheet 510 to the mattress 100 so that the fitted sheet 510 is less likely to move relative to the mattress 100 . This reduces some of the friction associated with bedding moving when the user changes sleeping positions.

It should be noted that the fitted sheet 510 may be made from any type of natural fabric material, synthetic fabric material, or moisture-wicking material. For example, the material used could be a polyester material for greater durability in everyday use. Additionally, the fitted sheet 510 can be made of rayon, wool, cotton, bamboo, nylon, rayon, linen, silk, or any combination of these materials.

Figure 6 shows another embodiment of the invention. A fitted sheet 610 is fastened to a twin size mattress having a waterproof pad 620 attached to the top of the fitted sheet 610 with a first fastening means 630A, 630B. In this embodiment, a bottom 630A of the first fixing device 630A, 630B is located at the center of the top surface of the fitted sheet 610 . A top 630B of the first fixture 630A, 630B is located around the bottom surface of the waterproof pad 620 . When the top and bottom of the first fastening means 630A, 630B are connected to each other, the waterproof pad 620 and the fitted sheet 610 become detachably fastened. In addition, a sheet 640 covers the fitted sheet 610 and the waterproof pad 620 . A pillow 650 is located at one end of the top surface of the fitted sheet 610 . The pillow 650 is covered by a pillowcase 660 . Those skilled in the art will understand from the teachings of the present invention that the pillow case 660 can be attached to the pillow 650 using a fastening means similar to the fastening means described above. Specifically, the pillowcase 660 can be detachably attached to the pillowcase 650 with a fastening device on the top surface of the pillow 650 and the bottom surface of the pillowcase 660, similar to the waterproof pad 620 or the cushion (shown in FIG. 4 ). Pillow 650. This will allow the pillowcase 660 to be easily detached from the pillow 650 to facilitate laundering of the pillowcase 660 . Although this embodiment was originally designed for adults, the device can also be used by users of all ages, except neonates/infants, since the use of pillows is not recommended according to SIDS.

FIG. 7 shows a slightly modified version of the liner arrangement shown in FIG. 6 . As shown in Figure 7, a fitted sheet 710 is secured to a mattress. A pad 720 is attached to the fitted sheet 710 with a first fastening means 730A, 730B located around the top surface of the fitted sheet 710 and around the bottom surface of the pad 720 . The fitted sheet 710 and the pad 720 are detachably interconnected when the top and bottom of the first fastening means 730A, 730B are interconnected. In addition, a waterproof pad 740 is fixed to the top surface of the gasket 720 with a second fixing device 750A, 750B. A bottom 750A of the second fixation device 750A, 750B is located at the central portion of the top surface of the pad 720, wherein the central portion of the top surface of the pad 720 corresponds to the area of the pad 720 that is generally closely adjacent to the user's buttocks and pelvic area. A top 750B of the second fixture 750A, 750B is located around the bottom surface of the waterproof pad 740 . When the top and bottom of the second fixing device 750A, 750B are connected, the waterproof pad 740 and the liner 420 are detachably connected to each other. A sheet 760 covers the fitted sheet 710 , the liner 720 , and the waterproof pad 740 . In addition, a pillow 780 is located at one end of the cushion 720 . The pillow 780 is covered by a pillowcase 790 . As mentioned above, the pillowcase 790 can be designed to include a padding device that facilitates removal and washing of the pillowcase 790 .

It should be further noted that all components involved in the present invention, including the fitted sheet, padding, waterproof pad, pillowcase, and various fastening devices can be made of launderable materials. Accordingly, the present invention provides an easily removable, washable liner assembly such that the assembly of the present invention can be constructed to withstand any conventional washer and dryer.

The present invention also includes embodiments having a themed design applied to a fitted sheet, pad, or waterproof pad. For example, a user may purchase a variety of different themed waterproof pads or liners such that the waterproof pads or liners can be interchanged to provide various themes. In another aspect of the invention, a coordinating themed fitted sheet, liner, and waterproof pad are designed. Referring to FIG. 8, a pad 810 may display a figure 820 of a character, wherein the figure's body is represented by the encircled area of the second fixture described above. A waterproof pad 830 can be designed to work in conjunction with pad designs 820, enabling various waterproof pads to exhibit various stylish designs. For example, a user interested in fashion may have one waterproof pad 830 with a tie businessman design and another waterproof pad 850 with a bow tie man design 860 . Users can interchange the waterproof pads 830, 850 so that the character designs on the pads can change their clothing. 1. A removable upholstery device for a bed, the device comprising: a fitted sheet constructed and arranged to be secured about a mattress, the fitted sheet having a first top surface adjoining a second top surface of the mattress, and a first bottom surface adjoining a second bottom surface of the mattress; a pad constructed and arranged to cover a substantial portion of the second top surface of the mattress; and A first fastening means is operative to attach the pad to the fitted sheet. 2.
