Project Management Construction Automation Invention Description Apparatus for Running and Walking on Treadmill in the Backward Position for Regular Treadmills Are Not Equipped for Backward Running Applications:
Used and new, commercial and home treadmills those are not equipped for backward running and walking Summary:
Backward walking has many advantages that many people have not discovered yet.
Walking backward in street or outside of the home needs cautious and has many safety issues. If treadmill is equipped for backward walking and people get use to walk backward on a treadmill, there are many benefits that they can take advantage of them and first and foremost benefit is a fit belly. Walking backward forces user's torso upright and engages abdominal muscles, so it makes user look taller. On the other hand forward walking forces the user to bend forward from the hip.
Ordinary treadmills that are not equipped for backward walking are not safe for that because user has to walk in the other side of treadmill and ha/she cannot see the control panel or stop the treadmill in emergency situation (Picture A). This apparatus enables regular treadmills to be safe for backward walking. The second major benefit is combination of this apparatus with treadmill desk when user walks backward. Walking backward with low speed (2mph) on treadmill desk enables user to work on desk effectively and in parallel doing one of the best exercises ever (having a fit belly).

Project Management Construction Automation General Benefits of Backward Walking:
People start walking in a forward direction. They walk backward in a very short duration of their lives and maybe never. Today health and fitness industry needs changes in some fundamental features. Heart is a major part of the body. Heart works all of the life of its owner without rest.
Every little pressure on chest makes a pressure on heart. Cardio exercises are essential because heart muscles are engaged. Body is a complex cable structure similar to a suspension bridge (e.g. the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco). Muscles work like cables in tension (they cannot resist on pressure) and bones are for pressure (like concrete columns and foundations in a suspension bridge). Structure of our cable body is symmetric, so if back muscles are in tension, some front bones are in the pressure.
Treadmill is the most important cardio machine. Running forward has a small pressure on the chest because all of the back muscles are engaged. That is disadvantage of continues running forward on the treadmill all of the human's life. Pressure on the chest (although small one in a long duration) makes chest small. In addition, people with knee injuries are not comfortable to walk on treadmill. Running backward solves all of these issues and adds many other benefits that first and foremost benefit is making a fit belly. Walking backward engages front core muscles. Walking 30 minutes every day means no belly after 6 months. How many people do walk on regular treadmills 30 minutes every day and suffer from a big belly all of their lives?
Walking backward in the nature and outside has safety issues, needs other person to watch us and is not practical. Treadmill backward is one the best options to make a fit belly. The results will be amazing!
Detailed Benefits of Backward Walking:
1. by placing tension on abdominal muscles, it is one of the best and effective exercises to make a fit belly and to have strong core muscles,

Detailed Benefits of Backward Walking:
1. by placing tension on abdominal muscles, it is one of the best and effective exercises to make a fit belly and to have strong core muscles,
2. puts larger strain on the cardiovascular system than moving forward at the same speed,
3. engages the muscles in a different way and targets the quadriceps and calves,
4. is a great way to improve coordination, cognitive control, thinking skills and balance.
(particularly for those over fifty is important),
(particularly for those over fifty is important),
5. protects knee joints and it is an ideal exercise for people who have knee problems or injuries (there is no eccentric load on knee joints). It can help to the knee joint issue of going down hills or stairs,
6. It helps digesting system by applying tension on abdominals and proper reaction on the stomach,
7. keeps the user excited about walking on the treadmill. Continues forward walking exercise makes user unexcited after a while,
8. by putting smooth tension on the chest, makes chest larger, and
9. by effective managing of the time for exercise particularly for businesspeople, combination with treadmill desk is perfect.

=Project Management Construction Automation Mechanism:
This machine includes six major parts (Picture B):
01 Turning Platform 02 Side Main Frames for Safe Backward Walking Fixed Bars 03 Main Frame for Safe Backward Walking Adjustable Bars 04 Side Adjustable Bars 05 Backward Walking Emergency Stop Apparatus 06 Connection to the Treadmill Original Emergency Stop Magnet 01- Turning Platform:
Two Turning Platforms are attached to the treadmill to make enough safe spaces for user to turn on the treadmill. User installs full set of components and after that in a normal form of a treadmill walking starts to walk forward. After couple of minutes walking forward on the treadmill, user takes the handles of Main Frame and slowly puts his feet on the Turning Platforms. Then user rotates on the Platforms and takes the other direction (backward) and starts to walk.
Turning Platform has special baseplates enable to adjust the elevation of Platform based on different kinds of treadmills. In addition, it has connections to the Main Frame to provide a stable and strong base for user to turn. Each Turning Platform has at list three baseplates.
02, 03- Fixed Side and Adjustable Main Frames for Safe Backward Walking:
This is the main structure of a strong guard around the back of the treadmill.
For walking backward in anytime, user can take the handles in two sides of the treadmill are provided by the Main Frame. Consider that during the backward walking, taking original handles attached by manufacturer is not safe and practical. Usually they are not extended enough to make a safe support for backward walking (Picture A). Two Side Main Frames and one Adjustable Main Frame (3) together make a stable frame around the back of the treadmill. Main Frames have special baseplates enable them to adjust the elevation of Main Frame based on different kinds of treadmills. Adjustable Main Frame has different components to change the width of the Frame based on different widths of different treadmills. Based on different size of treadmills (commercial or home-based), user only in once has to assemble the Main Frames.
Manufacturers can custom-built the Main Frames for their particular treadmills and make a simpler structure for the Main Frames.
04- Side Adjustable Bars The two Side Adjustable Bars are attached to the top of the Side Main Frames.
They are adjustable in their lengths based on different kinds of treadmill lengths. The main function of these bars is transferring load and data from back of the treadmill to the front side. In the backward position, when user wants to stop the treadmill, he/she can push the switch on the Emergency Stop Apparatus (5) and a mechanical load (pull or push) or data will be applied to the front by the Side Adjustable Bars. At least one of the Side Adjustable Bars is removable when user wants to go on the treadmill and provides enough space for user to inter to the treadmill area.

Project Management Construction Automation 05, 06- Backward Walking Emergency Stop Apparatus and Connection to the Emergency Stop Magnet There are two devices attached to this frame to stop the treadmill during backward walking. One is in front of the user (back of the treadmill) and other one is near to the treadmill Emergency Stop Magnet. These two devices are linked together with Side Adjustable Bars.
Device in front of the user (in the back of the treadmill) can be a mechanical switch or can be a complex electronic control panel to show whatever information user needs for backward walking. Device in the back of the user (in front of the treadmill) simply can be a mechanical pulling system attached to the Treadmill Emergency Stop Magnet. In this case whenever user wants to stop the treadmill, push the switch in the front and device in the back pulls the Emergency Stop Magnet and treadmill will be stopped. In a complex system, device is attached to the treadmill control panel by a cable and transfers data to the in front of the user in the panel at the back of the treadmill. User is able to control speed or stop the treadmill during backward walking.
Wireless Devices:
By using two wireless devices, we can eliminate the Side Adjustable Bars. Data is transferred from the back of the treadmill to the front remotely. In the case of simple mechanical device, user pushes a switch in front (in the back of the treadmill) and device is attached to the main control panel receives data and simply pulls the Emergency Stop Magnet to stop the treadmill (Picture C). In the case of a complex device, a receiver is attached to the main control panel and able to receive or send information to the panel in the front of the user in the back of the treadmill remotely.
Treadmill Desk:
Combination of this apparatus with treadmill desk is perfect. We are able to eliminate a major part of the Main Frames for Safe Backward Walking (2, 3) and connect some parts to the treadmill desk to make it strong and proper as a guard for backward walking.
Desk is in the other side of the treadmill and for low speed of back warding (2-3 MPH), it is a perfect situation to work on desk, walk backward slowly hours and hours and whenever user wants to run on the forward stage, user turns back and runs forward in a normal situation. Simple mechanical apparatus or wireless systems both can be incorporated in a treadmill desk (Picture D).
Special Considerations for Backward Walking on a Treadmill On a normal treadmill the biggest risk is falling over so, as a beginner user:
1. has a friend to observe and supervise him/her, 2. starts slow and takes it step by step until he/she becomes more familiar with the backward walking, and 3. increases the mileage by less than 10 percent a week.
