Abstract

An Apparatus for supporting a mechanic over a motor, in the engine compartment of a motor vehicle.
The support has a padded platform with an area on either side of the pad for holding tools, and parts.
The padded platform is extendable, as well; the platform is height adjustable.
Adjusting from small cars up to larger trucks. There is an adjustable step, all of which is easily assembled or disassembled, for easy storage. There are small wheels on the bottom of the frame for ease of maneuverability, when moving the "Mechanics Backease", in and out of location.

Description

Description After years of doing my own mechanical repairs on my own vehicles, I realized that my back and legs could not handle the stress of laying, or leaning over an engine, in an engine compartment, of a motor vehicle, from this came the invention of the "Mechanics Backease". The Backease starts with ( 1 ) the base, which is constructed of 32mm square tubing, horizontally on the floor it has a 100-degree bend, extruding upwards. (S) The upright extendible support, constructed of 26mm.tubing, with an 80 degree angle, horizontally extending outward 46mm, this extension accepts, over top it, the 32 mm square extendible tubing, (9) which attaches to the padded support, tool and parts tray (8). The base ( I ) has on either end, wheels (10) and (11). The rear wheels (1 I ), are locking wheels. After the bend extruding upwards on the base ( 1 ) is the adjustable step (2). The step is attached to the adjuster's (3) which adjusts by sliding up or down the upright extensions ( 1 ) on the base. They are locked in place by (4) the pull and turn spring tension device, which is attached to (3), the step adjusters.
This (4) is a 6mm pin, inserted through the sliders (3) into (1) The base uprights, and {S) the support uprights. The adjuster's (3) have diagonal crossbracing (12) attached to the center of the step (2), from the top of the step adjuster's {3). The support pad is centered on the tool and parts tray (8), which is, attached to 32mm tubing (9) that is adjustable, horizontally over (S) the top extension, thus enabling the support tool and parts tray (8) to extend out an additional 10 cm. There are 8mm holes (6) in the base uprights ( 1 ) for the adjustment of the step (2), as well as the adjustable support (S). Theses are all locked in place by (4) the pull and turn locking device, when they are in an extended position. The base ( 1 ) is 32mm, 14 gauge square tubing.88 cm long with a bend extruding vertically upwards 80 cm. The step (2) is 16 gauge, 61 em. Long by 1 Scm.
Wide, with 26mm.
Bends, downward on both sides and 1 S cm. Upward bends at each end attaching the step to the adjuster's {3). The step adjusters (3) are 30cm. Long, 14- Gauge Square tubing, adjusting the step from its lowest point floor level up to a height of 4Scm. The diagonal crossbracing ( 12) is 12-gauge, 2Smm wide by 4S-cm long, flat iron. The upright extendible body support (S) is a 46cm.
Long 14- gauge square tubing with an 80-degree bend, 16-em. From the bottom, which extends horizontally out 46 cm., acting as the deck support, which accepts the over top, it the telescoping deck supports (9) the deck support (S) extends upward, from a deck height of 87 cm. From the floor to a maximum height of 138 cm. The sliding deck supports {9) are 30 cm.
Long, 14 gauge square tubing, which attaches to the tools and parts tray (8) with the the padded support (7) in the centre. The tool and parts tray (8) is 30cm. Wide by 81 cm. Long, made of 16-gauge sheet metal, with folded ends and sides, with welded corners. The padded support (7) is constructed of folded 16-gauge sheet metal, 30by30cm. At a 6 degree angle with a 51 mm. Foam on top, both covered with vinyl leather.

Claims

Claims (1) The" Mechanics Backease". A human support, for supporting a mechanic over an engine, in an engine compartment of a motor vehicle. Compromising: A padded support (7) attached atop the tool and parts tray (8) which attaches atop (9), the horizontal extensions.
These are accepted overtop the height adjustable, horizontal section of the support (5). The vertical section of the supports (5) are accepted by the vertical section of the floor support (1), the floor support (1) has wheels (10) and (11), the rear wheels (11) are locking. Over top (1) the vertical section of the base, is the step adjuster's (3) attached to the step adjuster's (3) is the step (2).

(2) A "Mechanic Backease" as claimed in claim 1, wherein the padded support (7) is attached in the center of the parts and tools tray (8) which is attached to the the sliding horizontal extensions (9).

(3) The "Mechanics Backease as claimed in claim 2 wherein the square tubular sliding extensions (9). These slide overtop the square tubing, horizontal section of (5) the upright extendible support section. This allows (9) the extensions to telescope in and out.

(4) The "Mechanics Backease", as claimed in claim 3, wherein the sliding extensions (9) are locked in place overtop the horizontal section of (5) the upright extendible supports, by drop pins (13).

(5) The "Mechanics Backease", as claimed in claim 4, wherein the vertical section of the upright extendible supports (5) are accepted by the vertical section of (1) the base support.

(6) The "mechanics Backease", as claimed in claim 5, wherein the base support (1) accepts (5) the height adjustable upright. This upright (5) adjusts down for smaller cars as well as up for larger trucks and 4 wheel drives.

(7) The "Mechanics Backease as claimed in claim 6 further includes wheels, front and rear (10) and (11) the rear wheels (11) are locking, bath of which have a short height, so that the said base (1) is adjacent to the floor.

(8) The "Mechanics Backease as claimed in claim 7, where the base support (1) accepts overtop it, the height adjustable step sliders (3) which are constructed of square tubing.
Attached to these is the step.

(9) The "Mechanics Backease" as claimed in claim 8,wherein the adjustable step sliders (3) is attached the step (2) and is a flat iron bent down front and rear, and bending up at either end. Thus attaching to the sliders(3) (10) The "Mechanics Backease" as claimed in claim 9, wherein the height adjustable step sliders (3) have diagonal crossbraces attached atop them, and center of the step (2).

(11) The "Mechanics Backease", as Claimed in claim 5 and 7, wherein the height adjustable support (5) and the height adjustable step sliders (3) are both locked into place by (4) the spring loaded pull and turn, tension device. This attached to (3) the adjustable step sliders.

(12) The "Mechanics Backease", as claimed in claim 11, wherein the spring loaded pull and turn pin device (4) locks the height adjustable support (5) and the height adjustable step sliders (3) in place by the pin, in the pull and turn locking device, sliding through holes (6) in both (1) the base support and the height adjustable body support (5), thus locking the upper support (5) the step sliders (3) in place through holes (6) through (1) the base support at various heights.

(13) The "Mechanics Backease", substantially as described with reference to the drawings. Scale: 1"
per foot.
