FIELD OF TE~E INVENTION
This invèntion relates to a multi-compartment pack for carrying articles and to fastening means for multi-compartment packs.
P,ACKGROI~ND OF THE INVENTION ~:
It is common for individuals to carry articles in a pack having shoulder straps that can be carried on the user' back. Packs having multiple compartments are known.
Purther, it is known to provide bags or rr)nt~;n,~rs with thermal insulation to maintain the internal temperature when foods and beverages are contained therein. Such insulation is also useful to protect film, cameras and other electronic equipment .
Large or multi-compartment packs, however, may be inconvenient in situations where a user does not want the bulk or weight of a ~ull pack on their person. Additionally, thermal cnnt~' n~r~ may be awkward to carry when they cannot be easily combined with other bags one is carrying. In ~ome situation~, a user may wish to change rapidly from a full pack to a lighter pack, without repacking. For e2~ample, the user may be carrying a number of objects where a full pack with optional modular compartments would be useful; such optional compartments might include a separate thermally insulated compartment. The user might then desire a quick ~ 21~gl changeover to a lighter pack, or might simply require a smaller compartment when for some reason there are fewer objects to carry.
It is desirable for the user to have flexibility in deciding the size of pack to carry. It is also desirable for the user to be able to secure the pack and its individual modular compartments on his/her shoulder~ or waist, n~;n~;n;ng a hands-free mode. The user may be carrying books in one compartment, lunch in another. The user may be hiking with perishables in one compartment and non-perishables in another. Alternatively, one may simply want the versatility of using a lighter pack, or the convenience ~ ~-of a thermally insulated compartment capable of being independently carried.
