Potential Increasing For Another Significant Winter Storm This Weekend
Forecasters say they're watching another system that has the potential to be significant.
As the Northeast digs out from a major winter storm that passed through on Sunday, forecasters are warning there could be another significant storm in the near forecast that could impact the eastern United States this weekend.
"Potential is increasing for another significant winter storm to impact the eastern United States this coming weekend. It is too early to know the details, but please keep updated with the latest forecasts this week," the National Weather Service's prediction center said.
Cold temperatures are expected to persist across the eastern part of the country through the next week. At the same time, a "high-altitude disturbance" will come out of Canada late in the week, leading to a "strong" surface low-pressure system. "This surface low interacting with the very cold air mass will result in widespread heavy precipitation," the NWS said.
