AHPC 14 - Children's Books - Hukuna Matata 25mm

Children’s Books: Something sweet for the kiddies, or perhaps something darker, maybe a little Edward Gorey?

Back in the late 90's my daughter Abi was obsessed with The Lion King, she was 3 at the time,  everyday after I picked her up from nursery school, I'd ask her what video she'd like to watch while I'd make her lunch, everyday for what seemed like years she would pick Disney's The Lion King.
This is the film that I've watched the most, honestly I don't know how many times I've seen it, but its got to run into the 300+ mark, easily!
Still to this day, I can resight the script and of course sing all the songs!

Abi wasn't just interested in the Disney film, she had plates, mugs, soft toys, bed covers, bags and everything imaginable, including this book.

Which of course I read and re-read several hundred times! The book came as part of a collection, every month, we'd get 2 different Disney books delivered to our house. The Lion King is the only book we have left from back then. I'll be giving this to Abi soon after I post this, she's 30 this year and I know she's gonna love it!

The figures are all from North Star's African animal's range and are all 25mm.

Obviously they're not all the same size so I'd guess they're worth 10 point as a total?

Simba, Pumba & Timon

So 10 points for the figures
and 20 points for bonus round, making a total of 30 points.

Developing Little Minds......

Daughter No 3 Holly dragged me into town last weekend for the Bank of Dad to by her supplies for school. She started 6th form at the start of September and needed a few folders and the like.
Luckily for me and my wallet, some of the bits she wanted are sold in Poundland, so while she was filling up a basket with all sorts of stuff, I looked at the craft and toy section.
Where I stumbled across these Wild Animals. The Bear and Wildebeest seemed to be the least popular as they were the only ones left. Now I dunno about you guys but my keen wargames eye is always on the lookout for anything that could come in useful on the table top wherever I go.
So I secretly dropped the box in Holly's basket (dunno why, I was paying?)
and for the princely sum of only  £1 !!

The Bear will come in handy, not sure if I'll ever use the Wildebeest though?

When we got home, my wife asked Holly what she'd bought, first thing she pulled out her bag with a grin, was my new addition, she dropped it onto my wife's lap. Who looked at it shaking her head "You're an idiot" she said still shaking her head. Then said "well that's about right, developing little minds!"

Hmmm?.......Can't argue there, can I?

He's a bit of a brute.

Here he is standing with a Redoubt Native American.

I touched up the bear slightly, repainting and inking the inside of his mouth and giving him a coat of matt varnish.

Wouldn't wanna meet him down a dark alley?

AHPC X - Poacher & Son and Poacher & Son

Back to more Donnybrook time I'm afraid.
Also back with our ol' pal Col Bill and his great range of 17th Century figures.
Here we have Poacher Martin and his son Bob!

They can be found here, for the slim price of £3!!

These can and will be used in my giant Donnybrook adventure.

Our next Poacher & Son and England best poachers
Mr Fox and his boy Dave.

These can be found at Col Bill's or from the original manufacturer Warbases.
Martin and gang make some excellent animals.
Mr Fox can be found here. for £2!
For the points I'd hazard a guess at 15 for the lot?

AHPC8 - Flight - 25mm Roman guard dogs

Well its time for the first Bonus round entry.
Curt's once again killing me with his choices, this one is "Flight"
Now my problem is I don't own any periods past the year 1763 so its a tad difficult
finding something that could fly?
So its lateral thinking time again?
After a rummage in one of the many unloved and forgotten boxes of unpainted lead I found these
I think they're old Gripping Beast figures, although I can't find them on their website?
They were in a bag with some GB civilians, so who knows?
So here's my entry 12 Geese!

Is anyone else having trouble commenting on blogs recently?
I have to press publish several times before my comments posted?

Bloody Pig!

Last month I entered into Edwin's Prize draw over on his blog
"Thoughts of a Depressive Diplomatist",  and guess what I won a prize!!!
My prize was a £10 voucher to spend at Bad Sqiddo Games!!
Cheers Edwin!!!

After much deliberation I decided to be a pig.....

or rather the Ristuls's Extraordinary Market, Pigs at the Farm

From Bad Sqiddo's site....
Note from Annie – “Oink Oink! These snuffly oinkers are bound to make you smile! As well as being adorable, this kit makes a great bit of scenics but also so nice bits of scatter to duck and fight around in a game. Farm Seige! See also, LOTS MORE PIGS!
This set contains 2 pigs and 6 bits of farm terrain. Really crisp detail, the top quality we have come to expect from Ristul’s!

Just like Annie said, these have gotta be the crispest terrain pieces you can buy! I also added the pack of pigs to the parcel, you always need more bacon don't you????

I did buy some more bits and bobs from Annie at Bad Squiddo at Salute this year so, If I find the time I'll take a few pics.

Recently Painted No 44 Fran the Angry Bear

Only a small post for today. I recently emailed a few photos and entered this fine looking beast into the Analouge Painting Challenge. Fran the Angry Bear was was let into the competition, where technically he shouldn't have been, because he's not a historical figure, but Curt the nice chap that he is gave me the points anyway.

I bought the figure at last years Salute convention and very broken-heartedly handed
over £8.50 for him to Steve Barber Models stand. He is a pre-historic bear,
but a bears a bear in my book and he's hopefully gonna go Viking chomping,
when I get my finger out!!!

As I've already said, the name of this bear is "Fran the Angry Bear"
Of course he's named after my pal Fran the Angry Lurker.
The Bear is mean, ginger, angry, quite unhappy most of the time, and man is he uuuuglee!!
Just like his namesake?
BUT?
There's a new prize in the challenge, Curt's wife Sarah is going to pick a figure she likes the best, but this figure has to be a model of  a female??
So I'll let you all into a little secret, my bear is actually a girl!!!
And as Frances is a girlie name, it fits perfectly

Don't you agree??

I give you Frances The Angry Bear!!!!!

.

The original Angry Bear
Being his usual pleasant self!!!
