New Orleans, LA - Florestine Jefferson Hurst was born into this world with a purpose and mission from God. Our beloved was taken home by the Lord on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. She already is with her Savior and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her directness, her sassy spirit, her kindness, her compassion as well as her love for family and friends. As a native New Orleanian, Florestine attended school, worked, married and had six children. She has also resided in Houston, TX and Gautier, MS. She attended church wherever she lived and became a born-again Christian late in life. Thank God for his mercy. Mrs. Hurst is preceded in death by her parents, Emile and Mayola Jefferson; husband, Harry Hurst, Sr; daughter, Irma L. Dixon; grandsons, Sterling Addison, Jr. and Harry (Busta) Howard; siblings, Pearl Jefferson, Lovenia Rush, Mayola Osirio, Shirley Muse Wright, Delores Reid, Waldo, Shack, Joe, Emile and Burnell Jefferson; Arthur, Albert and Raymond Ball. Mrs. Hurst leaves to cherish her memory, children, Harriet and Fay Collins (Terry), Harry, Jr., Felix (Caryle) and Emile Hurst (Kim), as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, co-workers, associates and friends. A Celebration service honoring the life and legacy of the late Florestine Jefferson Hurst will be held in the Chapel of CharbonnetLabat Glapion Funeral Home, 1615 St. Philip Street,/ New Orleans, LA 70116 on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at 10 am.
