Black, Hispanic Caucus PACs endorse Pascrell

Pascrell isn’t member of either caucus, but his district has big Black, Hispanic communities

The political arms of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) have both endorsed Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson) for renomination in next month’s Democratic primary election.

“Bill Pascrell is one of our most respected colleagues and toughest members,” CBC PAC Chair Gregory Meeks (D-New York) said. “Bill’s record on behalf of protecting our voting rights and defending our democracy is tireless. And he aggressively fights for his district, delivering federal aid to rebuild roads and bridges, expand mass transit, construct affordable housing and enhance public safety. Bill is exactly the kind of member we need in Congress to win the tough fights ahead.”

“Representing one of the most diverse districts in our nation, I know that Congressman Pascrell always looks out for the interests of his many Latino-rich communities,” CHC BOLD PAC Chair Linda Sánchez (D-California) concurred. “I have worked side-by-side with Bill for years and see every day how much he fights for the people of North Jersey. Bill Pascrell champions funding for public education, lower prices for prescription drugs, expansion of the child tax credit, and protection of our democracy.”

Pascrell is not Black or Hispanic, and thus is not himself a member of either caucus. But his 9th congressional district has sizable Black and Hispanic communities – in fact, the district has more Hispanic residents than it does white ones – and both caucuses evidently decided that they wanted to weigh in on the 14-term congressman’s re-election effort just the same.

In next month’s Democratic primary, Pascrell will go up against Mohamed Khairullah, the mayor of the small Passaic County borough of Prospect Park.
