The jeweler behind the Five Time Zone watch worn by celebrities including Jay-Z, Naomi Campbell, and Pharrell has launched a new collection of luxury timepieces. Inspired by a freshly opened tin of caviar, the Caviar Tourbillon watch is covered entirely in precious gems—424, to be exact.

Jacob “the Jeweler” Arabo launched his label Jacob & Co. in 1986 and has worked with some of the biggest names in hip-hop; He's largely credited with bringing luxury watches to rap music. Arabo’s work often seeks to subvert complications that come up in watch design, blending traditional watchmaking techniques with innovative and daring aesthetics.

The Caviar Tourbillon is a perfect example of Arabo's style. According to the Jacob & Co. website, the watch features an exclusive movement called the Caliber JCAA43, which is “regulated by a one-minute flying tourbillon, visible through an opening on the dial.” The configuration is self-winding, and one of its sides contains 338 white brilliant cut pavé diamonds. Since the movement is constant, the diamonds are always sparkling from catching the light.

Jacob & Co.’s website dubs the Caviar Tourbillon “a work of both high jewelry and high watchmaking,” and the craftsmanship of the timepiece attests to this. Even the shape of the gems that adorn the Caviar Tourbillon is intentional. Arabo took direct inspiration from caviar tins, recalling how caviar is so tightly packed into its container that the individual grains compress into rectilinear, instead of round, shapes.

To reflect this geometric abundance, baguette-shaped gems adorn the Caviar Tourbillon using an invisible setting. Invisible setting is a labor-intensive process in and of itself, but this is compounded by the sheer amount of surface area that the baguette gems cover on the timepiece.

With its combination of technical mastery and dazzling design, Jacob & Co.’s Caviar Tourbillon isn’t just a luxury watch. It’s a statement piece that affirms Arabo’s reputation for pushing the boundaries of high jewelry and horology in surprising ways. Like the Five Time Zone watch that exploded on the scene a little over two decades ago, the Caviar Tourbillon serves as a reminder that fashion and function can go hand-in-hand in spectacular ways.
