the MC is unlikable and has no interesting traits, that doesnt happen in any other anime. Light Yagami is evil, but you get to like his twisted mind and traits, even if you dont root for him you like his character. The MC from Paranoia Agent which btw i dont even remember what her name was is just a blank paper, no personality, no desire, no nothing. "oh its because of trauma" idgaf i cant stand how boring she is. You ever seen Adaptation with Nicholas Cage? Look up the screenwriter rant scene, that is word by word what i'd tell virgin Satoshi Kon after watching his boring as tv show

Interesting! Now why don't you talk about Spy X Family with your own friends?

I have trouble understanding why you want to talk about some conventional shounen manga series directly in my profile.

I also have trouble understanding why Gantz is included somewhere in your lists.

I don't know about you which I literally don't, but I got lots more themes and unconventional stories left to explore.

Young man! Do I know you you?

For the record, I'm not in the target audience for Spy X Family and Gantz has explored entirely different themes which are quite suitable for real grownups objectively, so why are you comparing the two?

Why you talked about both of them within in a similar paragraph is weird.

I'm not a child so don't be surprised that again, I'm not in the target audience for Spy X Family.

I also read indie comics made explicitly for grownups nowadays so I do more than exploring Japanese media. In other words, I'm not a weeaboo and you can save Spy X Family for a real one that literally cares.

I am shamefaced at being called 'bruh' by @SOT_Daemon, whose virtues ascend the very heights of Mt Olympus, and it is with great humility that I decline to be numbered among his 'bruh.'

I am grateful to him for reminding me that I ought to do the most difficult sacrifice by giving Panty & Garter a high score despite my inability to enjoy its pedestrian humour. Mea maxima culpa.

I also owe him utmost thanks for uttering the crucial point that οἱ πολλοί understand not the process of κάθαρσις, of which Redo of Healer doth shew and effectuate. I abhour myself to have assumed in good faith that it is common knowledge among the populace that esteeming an anime doth not in any wise entail approbation of the fiendish acts displayed.

With respect, I commend @SOT_Daemon for such a display of his intellectual virtues. He even found me, to his estimate which I protest is not befitting my station, worthy of receiving the compliment of weïrd, which is also spelt wyrd, meaning something that referreth to fate. He deserveth a marble monument or even of brass to his precious and holy name.

I played some of Berseria simply because I liked that Velvet character, because only two episodes of her weren't enough. I didn't really liked the combat system and it was a real turnoff for me.

At least Deadman Wonderland timeline makes sense and doesn't contradicts itself, unlike abortion called Fist Of The North Star.

Deadman Wonderland we don't see a character as an adult before a major event, and then dozen of episodes later we see the same character as a fooking kid in a time/place that looks like it takes place after that major event....

Deadman Wonderland doesn't give the vibe of "we're making it/faking it as we go" much like Fist of the North Star does. We see a character bare chest/back in bathroom scene (Mamiya). Several episodes later we see something we didn't see in the episode we saw her half naked, yeah I'm talking about the brand B.S.

I ask again. Who are you talking about At Princess Mononoke topics? Yuno from Mirrai Nikki/Future Diary? Comparing them is like comparing apple and orange
Supersonic_Pain Aug 2, 3:23 PM
I'm just going to respond to all 3 of these at once

"Don't compare Takopii to Elfen Lied, they're very different aside from having a PTSD protagonist. You're like comparing Ikkitousen to Sailor Moon

And shitting on Takopii for edginess yet being fine with Future Diary doing it is very hypocritical!"

It wasn't necessarily comparing them in terms of the plot points beat by beat, more so that it's just worthless edgy tripe.

Takopii and Elfen Lied both have 0 entertainment value (Takopii arguably LESSER SO since at least Elfen Lied had decent gore for 2004) and are just edgy slogs.

Mirai Nikki is very edgy too but it's a dumb battle royale show. You can get away with a lot more as long as you are entertaining. I had fun watching Mirai Nikki and so while very edgy and "objectively" trashy, I would recommend it if you are into dumb brainless shows. I didn't even give it a recommended in my review, I gave it a mixed feelings because it IS a divisive show and if you're looking for more Mature, Artful shows, Mirai Nikki wouldn't be in your wheelhouse.

Takopii was a total drag. In my opinion, I thought it was a completely worthless show. It's not entertaining like a Mirai Nikki and it's not insightful or, like, emotionally impactful like a Schindler's List which I wouldn't exactly say I had "fun" watching despite it being a very good movie that I enjoyed.

If Takopii or Elfen Lied were at least FUN, I probably would've given them a higher score.

Elfen Lied was just a total misfire in general but with Takopii, I see the vision, I just think it was executed poorly.

You can be edgy, see Devilman Crybaby, but you have to either:
1. Be entertaining
2. In lieu of that, have insightful commentary or at the very least, be emotionally impactful

Takopii was not entertaining, I found it to have nothing of note to truly say, and I either laughed or later felt completely numb and exhausted by the "emotionally impactful" moments.

Frieren tag "I didn't really think about it when I wrote my review but it's weird af that a show about a non-human learning to deal with her emotions and shit has genocided an entire non-human race for not having human emotions and she's applauded for this

I don't necessarily think how this show treats demons is problematic in of itself (the fanbase however...) but it's such a weird turn for this show specifically to take"

Yet you like Future Diary which has a fucking serial killer protagonist glorified for her actions

I'm genuinely shocked that you actually went through my anime list and read through my tags, usually, I just stop at checking our compared scores.

As the tag says, it's not that I think it's problematic in-show, my problem with how Frieren treats demons is three fold:
1. The FANS (at least some of them) take it as a sign that Frieren is "tradpilled" and based and *insert right-wing buzzword here*. This isn't necessarily on the fault of Frieren, but it is worth noting that it is a negative impact to society that Frieren had (not that it had an effect on the score because, as mentioned in the tag, I didn't think of it when I was writing my review or scoring it).

2. It's a weird direction for Frieren specifically to take. A show about a non-human creature learning to come to terms with her human emotions for the first time... and then they point at this other non-human race and go "yeah, they look like humans, but fuck them, they should be slaughtered"

3. It's just a boring way to handle antagonists.

There's no moral dilemma or anything. Maybe if this was a dumb battle shounen, I'd be a little more lenient, but this is the best show of all time according to MAL, a thought-provoking show that is the masterpiece of our generation.

And you're telling me all the antagonists are objectively evil and there's no point in talking it out with them?

Compared to something like Solo Leveling, I wouldn't say the antagonists there are well-written icons of our time either but it's a dumb show meant to set up cool setpieces so people can point and go "wow, that was hype and aura!"

Not only are Frieren's "fights" not hype and aura, that's not the show Frieren proclaims to be.

As for Mirai Nikki, Yuno Gasai is clearly unhinged and in the wrong (and also the deuteragonist but that's semantics).

Now, yes, a lot of the fans looked at her and went "omg, cutie yandere waifu" but even then, outside of cases like Yuka Takaoka, that does nothing but galvanize gooners.

Frieren's (alt-right) fans take the demons as a sign that Frieren is propaganda for their side.

Do I think it is going to, en masse, convince people to become fascist or something? No, and that specific angle has nothing to do with the show (although my overall criticism of how it handles demons DOES and if I were writing the review today, I would 100% mention it) but that's also why it's just an aside in my tags and not in my review itself.

Calls Panty & Stocking immature yet Future Diary is more immature than the earlier and is offended of them saying slurs yet Future Diary literally has a shoehorned rape scene that is more problematic

Quit throwing stones at glass houses

PSG (btw, I'm actually really enjoying the new PSG, funny enough, but that's besides the point) is immature in a totally different manner than Mirai Nikki.

If Yuno Gasai was going "fuck" in Engrish 700 times in 12 episodes and there was an episode about how much Yuki wanted to lick the snot out of her nose, I would also have been disgusted and annoyed and noted it in the review.

As for the rape scenes, yup, I didn't like those either. It was one of the things I took points off Mirai Nikki for.

PSG saying slurs, while not good, wasn't what I took points off for for the most part either. It DID impact its score but I gave it a 6 because I thought it wasn't very good at having consistent antagonists. It could've been a Monster of the Week show or a serialized 13-episode show, either one would've worked, but it tried to do both and ended up kind of flailing at the end.

It's not like I gave Mirai Nikki a 10, it's a flawed show but it's a fun, schlocky show. It knew what it wanted to do and set out to do it.

you had a problem with 8 for Mirai Nikki but you were okay with 10 for Kanojo x Kanojo x Kanojo?!

I mean have you tried to re-watched Dirty Pair recently? I know it is all about personal preference, but at least Mirai Nikki offers a full story while Dirty Pair offers 50+ episodes of weekly fillers (I don't think I have finished it). I do have a fair share of old anime TV series and fun memories of watching them even re-watched some of them, Dirty Pair is just not on the list.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
