Stuff To Do

Muppet Wiki does not use stub templates that you may have seen on other wikis. They're unsightly, don't do a good job of bringing attention to what needs work, and no one ever knows when to remove them. In lieu of this, here are some areas on the wiki that could use expansion or updating.

Wanted Lists

Expansion

For much of the wiki's history, we grouped a lot of content together in consolidated articles, often times laid out in tables. Over time, these tables became lengthy and overstuffed due to the amount of coverage we found that we could put into these topics, so we decided to branch certain areas out to their own articles. While many areas are still in the process of migrating from tables to individual articles, there's an opportunity here for editors to help expanded summaries and other details now that these topics have their own pages.

Outside of these expansion projects, there are also several areas of the wiki that just haven't been naturally expanded yet.

Sketches

This forum post from Dec 2022 details the process of breaking Sesame Street sketches out into their own articles. When this process is started for each topic, just the information from the tables has been migrated to a new page and many of them are waiting for more detailed summaries. A list of those that have been migrated can be found at the bottom of the page. Here are some examples of sketches that have had more detailed summaries written recently: [1] [2]

Narratives

Back in 2020, the community held a discussion about how to handle broad topic categories. Because the presence of many articles in categories that deal with a general theme can't be sufficiently explained using that format, the decision was made to instead use lists labelled as narratives, i.e. for school, food, weather, love and relationships, etc. That forum still has a list of many categories that should be moved to a narratives list, we just haven't gotten around to them yet. The list of proposed themes can be found in in this forum post with other potential candidates at Category:Themes.

Dates

Category:Dates was set up in 2020, meant as an all-hands-on-deck project, but we all got sidetracked with other things to work on, so many of these still need to be filled out. Those interested in helping with this should take a look at the process as outlined in this thread (using the old forum system). Also, each date page has a link at the top to database results and Google results matching that date to provide a starting point. Finding dates that need to be worked on can either be done by manually going through all of them, or finding the short ones on Special:ShortPages.

Attention Needed

Special:WantedPages is a list of all the redlinked terms around the wiki. Additionally, Sandbox:WantedPages is a list of terms we removed temporarily to help manage server load. Both lists contain topics that may be appropriate to start articles for.

Special:Withoutimages — pages without images; note that not every page needs one. If you're unsure, please ask in Forum:Index.

Special:ShortPages — pages that may need expansion.

Disambiguations — links that should go to the appropriate article instead of a disambiguation page.

Category:Citations needed — claims made by contributors that require a source.

Category:Still Stumping — Category with old talk pages where an answer couldn't be found at the time of the discussion, but we know there's an answer with a citable source somewhere.

Category:Attention — Category with old talk pages where the discussion led to a call for Attention of some sort for the corresponding article.

Category:Sandbox — Primarily, a wiki's sandbox is used to test out edits before committing them to a live article. On Muppet Wiki, we also use this space for storing content we're gathering more data about and ideas for potential articles. Feel free to look through the category to help us out on these "not ready for prime time" sandbox projects.
