SCENE Cookie Monster enters Hooper's Store and orders a cookie from Alan. After eating it, he of course wants another ("87 more, maybe 95 more."), but Alan says that was the last cookie he's got. He decides to bake some more, but Cookie Monster has a hard time waiting for them to be ready. He notices the book Gabi has with her: "Tolstoy? Tolstoy not cookie; Toll House cookie!" She suggests that he make up a story about cookies as he waits, and agrees to write it down while he dictates. Cookie begins to come up with a story taking place in the kingdom of Cookie...

SCENE cont'd ... and the scene cuts to King Cookie sitting in his throne room, feeling unhappy because he senses there's something missing in his life. He calls out for his Royal Helper (played by Alan) to send a message to the people of his kingdom that he is looking for something special that would make him happy. After a trumpet fanfare from the Royal Helper (King Cookie: "Lemme guess, you no go to Julliard.") the story comes to a halt as in reality Cookie Monster asks Alan if the cookies are ready. They aren't, so Cookie continues with his story.

SCENE cont'd Several royal subjects come to the kingdom to offer King Cookie something to make him happy. The first to show up is Big Bird, who offers some birdseed. While this makes himself happy, it doesn't for King Cookie. The next to arrive is Lady Gabi of the Schoolyard who does a special hand clap, but it also doesn't cheer up the king (though the Royal Helper gets a kick out of it). The story comes to a halt again as Cookie Monster briefly checks on the progress of Alan's cookies before resuming.
4075f
SCENE cont'd Next to visit the king is a young prince (Miles), who sings "Sing." King Cookie feels happy for a moment, but he still feels something missing in his life. The prince bids him good luck, and the king gives him a piece of advice: "You want be singer? Get rid of tights."

SCENE cont'd As King Cookie starts to lose hope, a little girl (played by Jasmina Lee) approaches the throne and gives him a cookie to eat. King Cookie decides to try it to make the girl happy, but after one bite he realizes that this is what's been missing all along! He gobbles the rest as well as the girl's box of cookies, proclaiming the girl as prime minister and lives happily ever after.
4075j
SCENE cont'd Gabi compliments Cookie on his story and its happy ending when Alan returns with a fresh plate of cookies. Alan refers to the cookies as "another happy ending" and Cookie corrects him: “This not happy ending, this happy beginning!” he says, devouring the cookies in a frenzy.

Notes[]

  • Frank Oz makes a return performance as Cookie Monster, one of the few Sesame Street episodes since the 1970s in which he performs throughout the entire street plot, and marks his final performance of Cookie Monster on the show to date. Alan Muraoka recalled the experience at an Eternal Con panel[1]:

Frank, when I joined the show in Season 30, was not on the show anymore, and he was directing in Hollywood. And apparently, from what I understand, he had just directed this remake version of a movie called The Stepford Wives. And it did not go well. So he actually came back to Sesame, just to sort of have a day and sort of re-energize. And so, they told me that he was going to be on, and I was so nervous, because, you know, it's Frank Oz. And then he pulled me aside right before we started shooting, and he's like, "Okay. Just so you know, you've got your script, right?" I was like, "Yeah." He's like, "I'm gonna probably not say any of the lines that are on that page." So he said, "Just listen, and react, and go!" And so I was like, "Sure!" I was both terrified and exhilarated. And it ended up being a great day, and being a really fun day. And he came up to me afterwards -- 'cause he didn't know me, 'cause I had just joined the show -- and he was like, "Good job." And I was like, "Thank you, thank you so much."
