SCENE 1 Telly comes into Hooper's Store for an oatmeal breakfast, believing starting the day out right with a good breakfast will prevent anything wrong happening in the rest of the day. David and Mr. Hooper discover they're out of oatmeal and argue over whose fault it is. Telly believes he's caused the argument, but they assure him they're merely having a "misunderstanding" and it's not his fault. Olivia comes in and orders some oatmeal as well. Sensing what will happen next, Telly tells Olivia it won't be her fault.

Mr. Hooper recalls when he asked David to get more oatmeal - the previous evening, he was checking what items needed to be re-stocked. Forgetful Jones strolls in and offers to help, but his typical forgetfulness confuses Mr. Hooper enough that he forgets to tell David to get more oatmeal when David returns from making deliveries. As Big Bird leaves, Snuffy feels he should be wearing a different tie and goes home to change.
