Training on Academic Program Accreditation, Application Process, and Quality Audit Procedure was successfully held at Mattu University.
Mattu University has successfully delivered a training program on academic program accreditation, the application process, and quality audit procedures. The training was facilitated by senior experts from the Educational Training Authority.
The main objectives of the training were to enhance institutional understanding and capacity in quality audit principles, standards, and practices related to academic program accreditation; to strengthen accreditation processes through systematic documentation, compliance with accreditation criteria, and alignment with recognized quality standards; and to prepare academic programs for internal and external accreditation reviews through evidence-based self-assessment, continuous monitoring, and readiness for quality audits.
In his opening speech, Dr. Alemu Disasa, President of Mattu University, emphasized that achieving the university’s mission is impossible without delivering quality education. He underlined the importance of the training and urged participants to actively engage and apply the knowledge gained for the overall success of the university.
Additionally, Mr. Abiy Gezehagn highlighted that the training enables the university to conduct effective self-assessment at all levels. He noted that quality education is not achieved overnight and requires continuous effort and commitment. He further stressed that the training specifically focuses on strengthening academic program accreditation and improving the quality audit of academic programs.
Dr. Diriba Gemechu, Director for Academic Affairs Directorate of Mattu University, also delivered an important directive to the trainees. In his closing speech, he stated that Mattu University has recently conducted academic program reviews for 17 programs. He emphasized that the training has further strengthened the university’s capacity to continuously review and improve its academic programs.
Dr. Diriba stressed that without accrediting academic programs, it is impossible to deliver quality education and ensure institutional compliance. He underlined that every academic program in the university must be accredited by effectively applying the knowledge and skills gained from this training.
He also announced that the same training will be extended to Bedele Campus for the next two days, ensuring broader institutional engagement and consistency in academic quality assurance practices.
Mattu University Hosts Inception Workshop for Drama and Art in EU Yayu DeSIRA Project
Mattu University has advanced its collaboration with Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung (HRNS) under the Gender Household Approach (GHA) of the EU Yayu DeSIRA Project. Following a signed MoU and detailed refinements to the project proposal "Drama & Art for Gender Household Approach (GHA)," an inception workshop took place on February 14, 2026, at the university's Senate Hall in Mattu, Ethiopia. The event gathered experts from HRNS, experts from different colleges of Mattu University whose areas of specialization relate to drama, art, education, gender studies, and environmental communication, along with key stakeholders, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas.
Dr. Bedilu Teka, Vice President for Academic, Research, Technology Transfer, and Community Service, and Mr. Habtamu Wendimene, HRNS Field Office Manager for the Mettu branch, graced the occasion. Assistant Professor Tegegn Demissie, the project's Principal Investigator from the Department of English Language and Literature, presented the proposal. It focuses on creating culturally relevant drama and art-based educational materials to promote GHA principles among smallholder farmers in the Yayu Coffee Forest Biosphere Reserve. Deliverables include Afan Oromo scripts with English captions, HD videos (up to 25 minutes), photos, and toolkits addressing gender dynamics, climate resilience, youth/women enterprises, and sustainable farming—overcoming limitations of traditional technical reports.
Participants praised the proposal's design for its urgency in biodiversity hotspots, offering constructive feedback on timelines, logistics, quality assurance, and casting. The project team addressed queries effectively, with Dr. Bedilu Teka and Mr. Habtamu Wendimene closing the workshop by emphasizing collaborative engagement. With deliverables targeted for March 2026 and dissemination through university channels, this initiative promises to scale GHA impacts innovatively for women, youth, and marginalized groups.
