A cat owner who was told she couldn?t know the address where her missing cat had ended up for fears of breaching data protection has been reunited with her feline after he vanished nine months ago. See SWNS story SWLNcat. Cops were called in to solve the mystery after two-year-old cat Fred vanished from his home in Market Drayton on August 9 2022. Owner Beryl Edwards received a shock email from pet chip company Identibase on May 4 requesting a change of ownership for her missing cat Fred nine months after he went missing. Confused, Beryl immediately called the company demanding to know where her missing cat was and who was requesting the change of ownership. But the company refused, stating that they would fall foul of the data protection act if they released the information. Beryl was left in a grey area of knowing her cat was alive but was unable to find him due to data protection, so she was forced to seek help from the police. Her information was passed onto the family who were housing lost feline Fred but she didn?t receive any update until the family told Identibase that they didn?t know where Fred was. But just two days later on Sunday May 15, the family emailed Beryl pleading with her to let them keep the cat - Beryl refused, stating that it was her animal and that legal action would be called in if he wasn?t returned. Luckily the family saw sense and handed Fred over to the local cops and he was reunited with Beryl on Monday night at 10.45pm.
