Pic shows: The children being punished. A nursery school teacher has been arrested for allegedly beating and psychologically torturing her young pupils after she was caught red-handed on CCTV during a police sting operation. The 58-year-old teacher, whose name has not been released, was reportedly caught slapping and pulling the childrenís hair when they disobeyed her at the school - also not named - in Irpinia, a small town about 25 miles from the southern Italian city of Naples. Parents had started to suspect the experienced educator after their children were coming home with bruises on their bodies. Some claimed they had even needed to take their kids to hospital for treatment. They claimed that when asked about the injuries, the teacher would simply say: "I donít know" or "I canít say." The concerned mums and dads finally went to the police, who promptly installed surveillance cameras all over the nursery school. But the parents said that what they then discovered was worse than they had previously imagined. They said the footage revealed the true psychological torment she was putting their children through. According to police, to discipline her pupils, the 58-year-old would slap them, pull their hair and even lock them in a dark room where they would spend lengthy periods of time crying, frightened and scared. Footage, released by the police force, shows part of the torment she put her pupils through. The teacher can be seen yelling at a little boy and pulling him by the arm. At one point, she shouts: "I told you! Be quiet! No! No! No!", as she takes him out of sight. In another part of the video clip, she takes one of the children to a dark room where she leaves the pupil all alone, scared and whimpering. Local police have apparently not released all the footage, which according to reports, reveals the other alleged acts such as the reported hair-pulling and slapping. Police have arrested the teacher on charges of physical and psychological violence towards children. She is now under house arrest at the request of local prosecutor Rosario Cantelmo, while she awaits trial. The head of the local police force, Marcello Castello, said that when questioned, the teacher did not seem to realise the gravity of her actions. (ends)
