This is the moment an astonished mayor spotted a wanted fugitive hiding out in an Italian Christmas nativity scene. Flavio Filoni was walking past the annual festive display which features life size statutes of Mary, Joseph and other biblical characters in a stable. But in what could have been a scene straight from hit Christmas movie Home Alone - where Kevin is running away from bad guys Harry and Marc wraps himself in a towel to disguise himself as a shepherd - mayor Filoni was left stunned to see the unfamiliar figure. Initially thinking how realistic the tableaux was, and complimenting inwardly the good work of the creators, he then did a double take as the figure moved among the bundles of hay in the scene at Galatone, near Lecce in southern Italy.

The third red ring phenomenon known as ELVEs Valter Binotto over Possagno, Italy on November 26, 2025 also featured firework-like phenomena known as sprites. He believes it is a first getting them both in same frame. Incredible images show a bizarre UFO-like 230 km-wide ring floating in the sky. Amateur astrophotographer Valter Binotto managed to capture the otherworldly sight over his hometown of Possagno in Italy. Amazingly, it is the second time he has spotted the rings at the location ??? as well as sparkly, red, firework-like phenomena known as sprites. The doughnut-shaped red rings are known as ELVES, an upper-atmospheric lightning event sometimes caught in long-exposure images above distant thunderstorms. They are a type of transient luminous event (TLE) that occurs in the lower ionosphere, roughly around 90???100 km above the Earth, directly above powerful lightning storms. Photo released 11/12/2025

A man was held down and forced to watch as migrants who smashed into his car raped his 18-year-old fianc?e in Italy, according to police in Rome. The couple, said to have been naked prior to the incident, had parked in a quiet corner of Tor Tre Teste, a park in the eastern part of the capital, minutes before they were surrounded by the group who attacked their vehicle. Police said the attackers broke the window and first pulled the man, 24, from the car before forcing the woman out as she tried to cover herself with an item of clothing. The man told cops he was restrained by two of the attackers as his fianc?e was dragged a short distance away. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Quarticciolo,+00155+Rome,+Metropolitan+City+of+Rome+Capital,+Italy/@41.8919784,12.5813807,3a,75y,159.4h,89.95t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sqi8vOKWxPMbBJN5ykiGgbw!2e0!6shttps:streetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.comv1thumbnailcb_clientmaps_sv.tactilew900h600pitch0.054297104793633366panoidqi8vOKWxPMbBJN5ykiGgbwyaw159.40158160259563!7i16384!8i8192!4m6!3m5!1s0x132f62fed32d3fdf:0x79be650f614b9617!8m2!3d41.8924796!4d12.5790713!16sg122p7vrb?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MTExNy4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw

A British man and his wife living in the Italian wilderness are fighting a legal battle to keep their children amid claims of mistreatment. Nathan Trevallion, a 51-year-old former chef from Bristol, and Catherine Birmingham, his Australian wife, bought a run-down farmhouse in the Abruzzo region of central Italy in 2021. They live on the remote property with their three children ? an eight-year-old girl and six-year-old twins ? as well as several farm animals, largely surviving on home-grown fruit and vegetables. But prosecutors have urged the local children?s court to remove the children, claiming they are suffering ?serious harm? as a result of their parents? back-to-nature approach, home-schooling and inadequate access to medical care.
