***EXCLUSIVE*** ***VIDEO AVAILABLE*** NAMIB DESERT, NAMIBIA - JUNE 21: Images of the Namib desert by astronauts on board the International Space Station (ISS) on June 21, 2014 above Namibia. Large dust plumes are visible being carried by strong winds off the coast of the Namib Desert. A YEAR from space ñ photographs of hurricanes, typhoons and meteorite craters show an astronauts-eye view of our planet from hundreds of miles above the earth. The illuminating images were taken by astronauts onboard the International Space Station (ISS) over the course of 2014.¿ The space-based snappers captured everything from phenomenal weather to the Northern Lights from their orbit at around 220 miles above the earth. The stunning collection charts some of the most important natural events of 2014, including Hurricane Gonzalo which hit Bermuda and Britain in mid October and Typhoon Neoguri, the super typhoon which battered Japan in July. The photographs also capture a rare glimpse of the Northern Lights from space ñ shining in bright greens and purples above the northern hemisphere. Astronauts have lived on the ISS every day since October 2000 ñ and the floating home and science lab provides a unique opportunity to capture out-of-this-world photographs. A river can be seen flowing among sand dunes in the Tanami Desert, located in Australia's Northern Territory in this July 15, 2013 file photograph. Over half of Australia lies above the Tropic of Capricorn, but it is home to only five percent of the population. It is a frontier land with little infrastructure, populated by cattle barons, crocodile hunters and aboriginal tribes. Geologists say the Northern Territory, which is the size of South Africa, has abundant diamond, gold and uranium reserves. However, a fifth of the Northern Territory is owned or controlled by aboriginal groups and many Aborigines have joined environmentalists to discourage mining.
