Ben O'Neill 14 of East Leake, Notts who is the first person in the world a new type of heart operation. Pictured (L-R) Ben O'Neill 14, Sean O`Neill, Rebecca O`Neill and Sam O`Neill 17. A teenage boy with a rare condition which left his heart TWICE its normal size has undergone a pioneering world's first operation to save his life. See NTI story NTIHEART. Ben O'Neill, 14, went under the knife for ground-breaking keyhole surgery to insert a stent into his heart at the Glenfield Hospital in Glenfield, Leics. Doctors decided to perform the procedure on the youngster after a major blood vessel between his heart and lungs completely COLLAPSED. A team of 20 experts then faced a race against time as they battled to save Ben during the five hour procedure which had never been tried before. Medics inserted a stent into his heart and then a new valve - taken from the jugular of a Australian COW - in order to repair his pulmonary artery. Brave Ben has suffered from the rare genetic condition tetralogy of fallot for his entire life, which has left him with FOUR different heart defects at the same time. But thanks to the pioneering operation the cricket-mad teen is now back at the crease and enjoying his new lease of life.

PIC BY JAMES HAGGERTY / CATERS NEWS (PICTURED: C-3PO MOSAIC MADE FROM STAPLES) - An artist has painstakingly created these portraits of Star Wars characters using tens of thousands of STAPLES. James Haggertys unique artwork, each requiring meticulous patience and organisation, take more than six months and up to 33,000 individual staples to complete. Star Wars fanatic James, from Brooklyn in New York, USA, has so far created portraits of Darth Vader, Greedo, and C-3PO. He realised the potential of staples as an artistic medium while casually relaxing and playing with an old stapler and decided to focus on Star Wars based mosaics, given his liking for the George Lucas Hollywood classics.
