BNPS.co.uk (01202) 558833 Picture: Rijksmuseum **please use byline** A lacquer chest bought for £100 and unwittingly used as a TV stand and drinks cabinet has sold for £6.3million after it was revealed as a rare Japanese antique. The 5ft cedar chest was deemed worthless by its late owner, who parted with the meagre sum in 1970 after using it as a television stand and drinks cabinet. But experts were left stunned when it surfaced 53 years later during a house clearance and was identified as a highly sought-after Japanese chest dating back to 1640. The gold lacquered chest, made in Kyoto by master crasftsman Kaomi Nagashige on commission for the Dutch East India Company, was highly sought after and London's Victoria and Albert Museum had been searching worldwide for it since 1941 when its sale was last recorded. But it was eventually snapped up at auction by Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum.

PIC BY MIGUEL CAMPOS COURTESY OF THEY DRAW & TRAVEL / CATERS NEWS (PICTURED: THE INTERACTIVE MAP OF LONDON DRAWN BY MIGUEL CAMPOS) Forget guidebooks- a creative brother and sister duo have come up with a way of mapping the world, through a collection of illustrated drawings. The collaborative project called They Draw & Travel, first set up in 2011, encourages artists to submit maps which give bespoke and tailored information about destinations. The artistic maps are then uploaded onto an interactive Google map, which travellers can use as an alternative way of finding insider information. By choosing either a destination, or specific key words users can browse hundreds of maps which offer advice and information. SEE CATERS COPY

FILE - In this photo taken Wednesday July 12, 2012 Isaq Abdi sits beside bundles of khat which he sells for his employer in Mogadishu, Somalia. The British government says Wednesday July 3 2013 that it is banning khat, an herbal stimulant, despite advice against such a move by an official advisory body. Khat, also known as cathonine, is popular in parts of the Middle East and Africa, where users chew the leaf to release stimulants that produce a mild high. (AP Photo/Farah Abdi Warsameh, file)
