The chief medical officer of a hospital has confirmed that 200 patients were evacuated following a fire that caused a major incident to be declared. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to Southampton General Hospital at 5.30am and the fire has now been contained - although there was a 'significant' impact to a floor of the hospital. Nobody was injured as a result of the fire and patients in all affected areas were evacuated to safe areas of the hospital.
