Suddenly an elephant appears and charges people, mopeds and the front of a shop in the Arambagh area of Hooghly district on February 11. The elephant reportedly damaged several cars and injured people in the attack. Forest department officials tried to chase the animal towards the Garbeta Forest. It was eventually tranquilised and taken to North Bengal.

A desperate pharmacist is begging the Government for help after running dangerously low on antibiotics to treat Strep A. Amo Sohal owns Kitsons Pharmacy in Worcester and says the spike in Strep A cases has led to demand for penicillin and amoxicillin soaring. He is now urging the Government to get a grip of the issue of supply despite ministers claiming there is no shortage of drugs.

Five men who were arrested at gunpoint in a Birmingham street by National Crime Agency officers and found to be in possession of an array of weapons, including a loaded firearm, have been jailed for a combined 32 years. Carl Brookes (aged 38) from Northfield, Callum Meah (26) from Stourbridge, Richard Davis (36) from Rednal, Jordan Feeney (28) from Northfield, and Robert Clark (32) from Northfield were held after NCA Armed Operations Unit officers stopped their BMW car in Muirfield Gardens, Kings Norton, on 13 May 2021. Officers recovered a handgun, ammunition, knives and sledgehammer from the gang. The gun was loaded. Clark was wearing a rolled up balaclava on his head, and had a knife in his inside pocket. After being questioned all five were all charged with possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of prohibited ammunition, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. Clark was also charged with possession of an offensive weapon/bladed article. All five men pleaded guilty and a judge at Birmingham Crown Court today (8 December) handed the gang sentences ranging between seven years and five years 11 months.

Those living in Senlac Road have been fighting to save the 70-year-old tree from facing the axe after discovering in June 2021 that Lewisham Council planned to remove it. But the battle to save the tree has been ongoing for more than a decade - since it was first revealed to be causing subsidence to a neighbouring house in 2011. Earlier this month ree surgeons turned up to fell the tree only to have their plans thwarted by a blockade of activists.
