James Sutton has admitted it will be refreshing to play a “less angsty” character now he’s moving to Emmerdale.
The actor found fame as gay John Paul McQueen in Hollyoaks but is now heading to the Yorkshire Dales to play jobless mechanic Ryan Lamb – and said it would be “nice to just not cry every day”.
James said: “Obviously, the character I played in Hollyoaks is quite angsty and he was six years my junior, so I was playing someone a lot younger.”
He went on: “Ryan is the same age as me, which is kind of nice not to consider how a young person would react. I can act my age and draw on my own experiences and my own opinions on things.”
The actor added: “I mean, John Paul was a great character, but it will be nice to play someone who is a little more grounded and less angsty. It will be nice to just not cry every day.”
