The aims of this process are as follows:

  • To improve community access to central notice through a clear and transparent process.
  • To improve best practice and ensure greater consistency in campaign implementation.

We plan to run two banners:

  • Banner 1 - Upcoming wish submission. This is a one week banner, which aims to inform the community about the upcoming campaign, which would be two-weeks long. It is less than the two weeks required by the guidelines, but the two campaigns combined would make 3 weeks total.

Note that this banner is to appear only on w:Wikipedia:WikiProject Latino and Hispanic heritage articles, using the new PageAssessments capability of phab:T374761. It will thus be much more narrowly targeted to interested readers, as compared to the earlier effort at CentralNotice/Request/Wiki Loves Fútbol.--Pharos (talk) 16:14, 13 July 2026 (UTC)reply

I'll create the campaigns over the weekend, I've already informed the requestee. Ciell (talk) 19:03, 3 September 2026 (UTC)reply

Hi @Afek91!
  • Looking at the mockups, are you using the 2024 logo again this year, File:Wiki Loves Women SheSaid logo 2024.svg? Do you also have a dark mode friendly version of it for me?
  • Also, as already mentioned last year, I can't use a redirect over the bit.ly domain in the banner since it's not WMF or affiliate owned. Please consider using the (privacy friendly!) Wikimedia URL shortner instead: Special:UrlShortener
Ciell (talk) 15:05, 5 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Also, same as last year, please make sure to check your colors for their combined web-accessibility before requesting: the yellow on white performs very poor. Ciell (talk) 16:40, 5 September 2026 (UTC)reply
And please don't forget to update the links on your landing page, most are those of 2025. It would be great if you can give me a list of the languages that are ready to be included. Ciell (talk) 17:14, 5 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Hello @Ciell
Thank you for your answer, the banners are updated with the new colours and links. Yes we will use the same logo of 2024.
The landing page link is updated as well. Unfortunately we do not have a dark friendly logo.
The participating languages are here. Afek91 (talk) 10:17, 7 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Hi @Afek91,
Thank you for updating the colors and the short-url!
Now, for the landing page: your link is about your 2026 campaign, yes, but most of the links to the local projects lead to their 2025 campaigns, and that makes me unsure if all will join you again for an active 2026 campaign. Please make sure all the mentioned language communities will have a 2026 event, so I won't run banners on Wikipedia's where the Wikiquote sister project isn't participating this year. Hi @Fritzober: Here is the banner (preview) and part of the campaign setup. Before I finish setting up the campaign, could you please clarify the exact dates? The request first mentions 1 November through 15 November, but later says 8 November through 22 November. Which date range should I use? Once confirmed, I can complete the campaign setup. Best, --Soylacarli (talk) 20:29, 14 August 2026 (UTC)reply

Hi Soylacarli: Thanks for your message. On DerHexer's recommendation, the period during which the banner is to be displayed should be split into two weeks. The weeks of November 1–8 and November 15–22 would be suitable. The competition runs from November 1 to November 30 (corrections are possible until December 1 at 23:59). Thanks for your efforts. Best regards. --Fritzober (talk) 21:55, 14 August 2026 (UTC)reply

  • @Sdkb-WMF: That's a really long banner campaign. ;D I couldn't find German Wikipedia targeted in any of the campaigns provided. Will it be added later? — Other than that the campaigns look good to me, I can approve it.
I'm just very much surprised to see “and save articles to read offline”, because in many countries that you target, reading things offline hasn't been an issue for many years (all our flatrates will certainly cover the small data packages of Wikipedia articles compared to the data needed for other apps). You likely have had A/B tests on this wording, but it wouldn't convince me (no worries, I have the app installed for ages ;D). Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 22:05, 8 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Hi @DerHexer! Yes, German was a later addition, but we will add it to the provided campaigns! (And the value proposition of offline reading is more about e.g. flights than it is about network coverage, but we'll be A/B testing the wording over the course of the campaign to see what resonates best — that's one of the reasons we're structuring it as a long, low-level campaign rather than a short burst.) Cheers, Sdkb-WMFtalk 14:48, 9 September 2026 (UTC)reply

As required, we have notified the Ukrainian Wikipedia community on the Village Pump. The identical requests from previous years: 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021.

At the moment, we are using the Wikimedia Ukraine logo for banner visualisation, but once we have a conference logo (~11th September), it should be placed on the banner instead of the WMUA logo.

Kindly requesting attention from @DerHexer:, who acted upon the previous year's banner request. Thank you! --OlesiaLukaniuk (WMUA) (talk) 00:39, 5 September 2026 (UTC)reply

Servus! Should "Regensburg" fall off the banner as on the preview or shall it fit?  « Saper // talk »  10:30, 2 July 2026 (UTC)reply

Will try to upload a screenshot once I can. On various systems I am using "Regensburg 2026" is at the bottom of a banner and gets cut off.  « Saper // talk »  23:08, 5 July 2026 (UTC)reply
this is how the "Regensburg" text gets truncated at the bottom. Maybe this is a limitation of the CSS we have here?  « Saper // talk »  00:08, 7 July 2026 (UTC)reply
Alright, but since we cannot copy the wiki markup anyway and have to rebuild the banner in HTML and CSS, it should be fine if it is displayed there correctly. — Am I right in assuming that you want to help out with creating that banner here? I can also handle it, no problem. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 15:39, 8 July 2026 (UTC)reply

Discussion

[edit]

I am aware that this request is coming on very short notice (due to issues with organizing the stops of the bus we are promoting). If someone can check it and maybe also activate it, we'd be very thankful. --Manfred Werner (WMAT) (talk) 09:12, 18 August 2026 (UTC)reply

@Manfred Werner (WMAT) checking - the banner is not yet dark mode compatible though. Would it be possible to add some code to make that work? Or should I help? I think I'll be able to fix this for you. Ciell (talk) 14:26, 18 August 2026 (UTC)reply
@Ciell: Thank you! I have not done this for a banner design yet. if you can point me to a tutorial or an example (that is understandable) I can try. If you really have the time to help it would be very appreciated of course. --Manfred Werner (WMAT) (talk) 18:26, 18 August 2026 (UTC)reply
The community banner template has the updated code in it. Is that enough for you maybe? I don't have a tutorial, sorry. Ciell (talk) 06:38, 19 August 2026 (UTC)reply
@Manfred Werner (WMAT): I have reduced some sizes in the banner because it was loading pretty slowly here. For dark mode options, you can take a look at the script at the bottom of the styles tag in Special:CentralNoticeBanners/edit/WMIL_Igul_2025 (please notice the names of the classes in the HTML section), for example. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 08:44, 19 August 2026 (UTC)reply
Thank you both! I'll look into the codes for the dark mode later, hope I understand how it's implemented there. --Manfred Werner (WMAT) (talk) 10:42, 19 August 2026 (UTC)reply
It feels a bit unexpected that the campaign should be running in all these parts of the country for the whole time (a month! — that usually needs separate community approval) despite the fact that the bus will have already moved on from some of the parts you are targeting. Adjusting the regions (with or without geodata as in the WMDE banner) seems to make more sense to me. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 08:48, 19 August 2026 (UTC)reply
What I would do ragarding the running time: When the event in Vorarlberg is over, I'd remove Vorarlberg from the targeted areas; and then continue to do so until the last date/locaton. Otherwise I would have had to create a banner + campaign + request for each date/location separately. I felt this is too much - but if that's how it should be done I can do it.
With abjusting the regions I could also remove the later targets now and activate them later. Would that be ok for you? --Manfred Werner (WMAT) (talk) 10:42, 19 August 2026 (UTC)reply
Sounds reasonable. For me it's good to go. You can enable the campaign. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 11:09, 24 August 2026 (UTC)reply
Ciell, DerHexer: I have added code for the dark mode now, hope this is as it is meant to be.
And I have limited the geo-targeting to Vorarlberg for now. If it's alright I will update it next week, removing Vorarlberg and adding the eastern regions for the next stop in Vienna, then Upper Austria/Linz. --Manfred Werner (WMAT) (talk) 21:43, 22 August 2026 (UTC)reply
Dark mode works for me now, thanks. Ciell (talk) 12:28, 23 August 2026 (UTC)reply

I will implement the banner later this week. --Johannnes89 (talk) 15:51, 30 March 2026 (UTC)reply

Campaign [11], banner [12], preview link [13] (should only display a banner while you're in Tübingen and either logged-out or logged-in but less than 50 edits).
@DarkGreenAndSunny there are some issues:
  • The text is way too long (try looking at the banner at a smaller screen...)
    • How about just using the first question?
    • Ideally the second sentence would be shorter as well, e.g. removing "wieder"?
  • While looking at the landing page I noticed that the option to register is only available to logged-in users – as is the second option (Wikimail).
    • How about providing an email address for logged-out users who don't want to register prior to the event?
    • Linking Spezial:E-Mail senden/DarkGreenAndSunny somewhere (currently "per [[Hilfe:Wiki-Mail|Wiki-Mail]] an [[Benutzerin:DarkGreenAndSunny|DarkGreenAndSunny]]") might also be helpful for logged-in users...
Johannnes89 (talk) 11:09, 3 April 2026 (UTC)reply
Thanks for implementing our request!
  • We'll shorten the text, you are right, its way too long to work on different screens
(* What do you think of the suggestion
"Wolltest du schon immer wissen, wie die Wikipedia funktioniert?
Für alle Queers und Frauen kommenden Dienstag in Tübingen: Offenes Treffen" @Alpenhexe)
  • We are working on the e-mail address solution, yes! We are currently having the problem that we ourselves are not able to change the necessary settings of our mailing-list for non-subscribers to be able to contact us. But that was the idea and we're on it.
  • Should we not be able to provide the mailinglist solution, I'll think about your last idea, thanks!
DarkGreenAndSunny (talk) 11:03, 6 April 2026 (UTC)reply
@Johannnes89, we agreed on the new text "Wolltest du schon immer wissen, wie die Wikipedia funktioniert?

Wenn du magst, können wir auch Samstag in Stuttgart nochmal übers Banner reden. Johannnes89 (talk) 18:29, 14 April 2026 (UTC)reply

Noting that CNC suggests an overlap with the monthly invites to CentralNotice/Request/Meeting WP:WWO in Stuttgart 2026 but I've been told that they won't run a banner in April – @Leserättin fyi. --Johannes Richter (WMDE) (talk) 17:44, 24 March 2026 (UTC)reply

That's right. We don't want a banner for the WWO-Meeting in April. So there is no conflict. Best wishes, Leserättin (talk) 18:24, 24 March 2026 (UTC)reply

Thanks for creating the banner @Martin Rulsch (WMDE), the new geo-location script looks very interesting. The banner does not work in dark mode for me, and I notice there's a lot of text in the notice, and would advise (non-binding) to shorten the invitation to join the event. Ciell (talk) 07:56, 27 February 2026 (UTC)reply

Together, we fixed the darkmode. Ciell has approved and enabled the campaign afterwards. Best, Martin Rulsch (WMDE) (talk) 13:17, 27 February 2026 (UTC)reply

Because of low registration numbers, we have added two more federal states and extended the duration of the campaign by three days. Best, Martin Rulsch (WMDE) (talk) 09:20, 5 March 2026 (UTC)reply

April dates and federal states added, banner text slightly changed and geolocation removed. The rest stays the same. Best, Martin Rulsch (WMDE) (talk) 11:16, 17 March 2026 (UTC)reply

First May campaign dates and federal states added, banner text slightly changed. The rest stays the same. Best, Martin Rulsch (WMDE) (talk) 10:15, 14 April 2026 (UTC)reply
