The WordPress Credits program is progressing since its pilot launch with the University of Pisa. Over the past months, we’ve been focused on setting up the infrastructure, preparing updated materials for students and institutions, and testing the virtual classroom on Learn.WordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/. We’re also preparing demos of the student classrooms so the community can see how the program will work in practice.
The initial pilot was designed to validate the concept and provided us with valuable insights. Building on that foundation, we continue to refine the approach and are preparing to scale as we transition from alpha to beta A pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users to trial under real conditions. Beta versions have gone through alpha testing in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and function to the final product; however, design changes often occur as part of the process..
Our next steps include: finalizing the infrastructure, completing program materials, launching visibility actions, and coordinating with contribution teams to support student onboarding. We’re excited to welcome Fidélitas University into the program this fall, starting with 15 students and building momentum toward opening participation to all majors by 2026. This couldn’t have been done without Rita Robles Loaiza ( @roblesloaiza ), who has spearheaded this initiative as the Associate Director of On-Campus Programs at the Faculty of Computer Science.
We’d love the community’s support in this next phase. Here are a few ways to help:
