State of BBPy? More general Tkinter development question.

I have gotten BBPy to work with Pyton 1.6a2 (but not 1.5.2) by changing "from Types.py import *" to "from types.py import *" (i.e. types must be lower case) in PythonSlave.py. One simple script I tried ran fine. However, when I tried to run a Tkinter script I'm working on Python hung and so did BBEdit. (In general BBEdit seems susceptible to hanging if Python hangs when using BBPy). Is this a known limitation in BBPy, that it fails with Tkinter scripts? Or did I just get unlucky and have something fail, or what? Any suggestions for a good environment in which to build Tkinter applications would be very much appreciated. It doesn't have to be on the Mac. The present business of editing the file, dropping it onto PythonInterpreter, having it choke, analyzing the output and doing it all over again is pretty painful. Also, any suggestions on ways to interact with a Tkinter script while building it would be appreciated. I'd like to start things up and then be able to talk to my widgets and generally exercise my code interactively. Regards, -- Russell

I am currently using this lib to create a script to help moderators of newsgroups wich works on macintoshes. In the docs it says: <quote> Input lines as read from the file may either be terminated by CR-LF or by a single linefeed; a terminating CR-LF is replaced by a single linefeed before the line is stored. </quote> I uses the simple script: try: f = open(file, 'r') except IOError, msg: print file, ': can\'t open :', msg return 0 m = rfc822.Message(f, 1) With a Mac file it works. Using Python .py scripts for CGI with personal web sharing

I am reposting this on its own just in case it got lost as part of the other post. I was able to get python .py cgi scripts running with personal web sharing using the pythoncgislave (thanks Just). Anyway if you add a "launch on suffix" action to web sharing with the suffix set to .py and the application to launch set to the pythoncgislave applet then any url with a .py will run as a cgi script. Examples are attached. I am surprised that the latest incarnation (march 2000) of the pythoncgislave script is not readily available either in the vaults of parnasses or on the python mac web page. But apparently that scheme needs rethinking for applications, because they don't look at the preferences file (but EditPythonPrefs doesn't know this). Sorry, I should have thought of this: 1.6a2 is built with a slightly older version of GUSI (the I/O and socket library) than what I'm using right now, and one of the bugs with it was that there were occasional problems with tcp/ip connections. So the short answer is that you should stick with 1.5.2, and I can use your script to check that the tcp/ip bug is actually gone from gusi (I'm masking it currently by using gusi with mactcp in stead of with open transport, but OT is better in the long run because of better performance). Now the only problem remaining is the console window that opens, and unfortunately I have no idea about how to figure out what is happening.
