Review of Kicking Dreams by L. Duarte Evangeline is an almost 18-year-old girl when she finds she's to be married off to a man many years her senior, all to save her cold, loveless father's stupid gambling ass. She volunteers to marry this man she doesn't know, all to save a man who is supposed to love her, but doesn't show a shred of heart toward her. Um yeah... And that's where this story lost me, IN THE VERY BEGINNING! And it never really got me back. I didn't end up hating it, so I can't rate it lower than 3 stars, but I didn't like it. Evangeline, while sweet, is so ott naive and sheltered that it drove me batty. Not to say that she deserved the horrible way her father and her "husband" treated her, because she most certainly did not. Not at all.
