Landgeist is a small mapping project run just by me, Martijn from the Netherlands. In my daily life, I work as GIS Engineer.

I started Landgeist during the lockdowns. I make a lot of maps for work, but they’re quite complex, technical and not that pretty to look at. During the lockdowns, I decided I wanted to improve my graphic design skills related to maps and create maps that look aesthetically pleasing and are easy to read and understand for everyone. Eventually I decided to start sharing my work with the rest of the world through Landgeist.

The name Landgeist is a combination of ‘Land’ and Zeitgeist’. With Landgeist I’m trying to capture the zeitgeist of the world through maps.

Apart from this blog, I’m also active on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, where I also post these maps. On Instagram I even post some extra content you won’t find anywhere else. So, make sure you give me a follow on X and Instagram as well.
