The world’s largest ice-and-snow theme park is set to open on December 17 in Harbin, the capital of China’s Heilongjiang province.
This marks the 27th edition of the Harbin Ice-Snow World, attracting winter tourists from across the globe.
The park spans an unprecedented 13 million square feet (1.2 million square meters), making it the largest ice-and-snow attraction in the world.
Construction used 14.1 million cubic feet (400,000 cubic meters) of ice and snow. This year’s theme, “Ice and Snow, Fairy Tale World,” promises visitors a magical winter experience.
Three unique landscape axes
Visitors can explore three main landscape axes, each designed with intricate ice and snow artistry. These areas offer stunning views, interactive spaces, and photo opportunities for tourists seeking unique winter memories.
Parade and entertainment shows
The park will host a large, themed parade featuring ice sculptures and performance art. An outdoor stage will feature daily shows, while a newly built 53,820-square-foot (5,000-square-meter) air-supported facility allows visitors to enjoy indoor winter activities, regardless of the weather.
Technology enhances experience
Smart lighting systems illuminate the ice sculptures at night, creating dynamic visual effects. AI-driven interactive features allow guests to engage with exhibits in real time, blending traditional winter fun with modern technology.
Sports and competitions
The opening coincides with the Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival. Visitors can watch international ice sculpture competitions, as well as snow football and ice hockey matches. Sports enthusiasts will find plenty of action-packed events throughout the festival.
New Year’s Eve celebration
A special New Year's Eve concert is scheduled within the park, promising music, performances, and winter festivities. The event is expected to draw large crowds, marking a highlight of Harbin's winter tourism calendar.
Tickets and promotions
Advance tickets are available through the park's official WeChat account and platforms like Meituan and Alipay. From December 17 to 23, adult tickets are priced at 298 yuan (around $42). After this promotional period, tickets will return to the standard price of 328 yuan.
Other winter attractions in Harbin
Beyond the Ice-Snow World, Harbin promotes the 16.1-million-square-foot (1.5-million-square-meter) Sun Island Snow Expo and an Ice and Snow Carnival along the frozen Songhua River. The carnival features about 260 snow sculptures and 60 ice-and-snow entertainment projects, making Harbin a must-visit winter destination.
