The Czinger 21C hypercar set a new production car lap record at Laguna Seca in Monterey County, California.
The car completed the 2.238-mile track in 1:22.30, beating the previous record-holder, the Koenigsegg Jesko, by almost two seconds.
“We knew that under ideal conditions the 21C was capable of earning a much faster lap than we had demonstrated in the past—this lap time now properly reflects its capability,” said Lukas Czinger, founder and CEO.
“We’ve built a tremendous road car that leads the pack on the track as well.”
Twin-turbo powertrain
The record-setting 21C combines a twin-turbo V-8 engine with electric motors, producing a total of 1,250 horsepower. The hybrid setup helps deliver extreme acceleration and track performance while maintaining road legality.
Experienced driver behind wheel
Joel Miller, who recently drove the same 21C for 1,000 miles across California race tracks, piloted the car at Laguna Seca. Miller set lap records at Thunderhill Raceway Park, Sonoma Raceway, Willow Springs Raceway, and the Thermal Club during that tour.
Track record history
Earlier this year, the 21C set a production car lap record at Laguna Seca with 1:24.39, but it was surpassed by Koenigsegg’s 1:24.16 just last month. Czinger reclaimed the record on December 9, demonstrating the car’s true potential.
Ideal conditions key
Lukas Czinger said that the new record was aided by optimal track conditions, including warm weather and sunshine. A previous summer attempt had been affected by a crash, delaying the record attempt, according to Road & Track .
Koenigsegg rivalry continues
The competition between Koenigsegg and Czinger is expected to continue. While a nearly two-second gap gives Czinger the edge for now, the Swedish manufacturer remains a strong competitor.
Local pride for Czinger
The record is especially meaningful for Czinger because the company is based in Los Angeles and is a younger entrant in the hypercar world, founded in 2019. Koenigsegg has been producing high-performance cars since 1994.
21C proves track and road prowess
The new record solidifies the 21C as a top-tier production hypercar, capable of excelling both on the street and on the track. The combination of power, engineering, and driver skill has pushed Czinger into hypercar prominence in just a few years.
