One percent of a Scepter will rival a fleet, ten percent of a Scepter will obliterate stars, one Scepter will surpass all that we comprehend, and a thousand Scepters will rule the universe.

—Simulated Universe, Unknowable Domain, Secrets: Futurological Congress (III)

The Scepter system is an invention created by Rubert II.

Description[]

With Nous' cognition process as its foundation, Rubert II cloned countless vast inorganic neuron clusters. From micro-particle fluctuations to massive large-scale matter annihilation, the Scepters were scattered across the empire's segmenta, faithfully performing observational, computational, and interference commands. Under specific circumstances, these celestial-level computational interference devices could even temporarily disrupt physical laws within an area.

Compared to Rubert I, the second emperor's cruelty only exceeded his predecessor despite his organic body. Indescribable gargantuan mechanical monoliths, self-iterating difference machines, cold merciless metal that executed the Anti-Organic Equation with a pure intent of slaughter, replaced the once-formidable Intellitron legions. Those inorganic lifeforms instigated by the Equation were nothing more than expendable tools to him.

Using the Scepter system, he united the domain of his conquered lands all into his thoughts. From the flow of every signal to the actions of every individual, the entire dynamics of an empire all came under the control of a single being's mind — the Emperor was the empire's sole executor, judge, and thinker. Some opinions believe that the essence of the Scepter system was the second emperor's way of overcoming organic limitations, an external cognition organ that converted the Empire into his own brain.

Perhaps influenced by such a desire for control, in the waning days of the Second Emperor's War, Rubert II finally decided to expand his own cognition with the Scepter system to create a certain unknown Knowledge Singularity. Returning to the role of a seeker of knowledge, he prepared an experiment known as the "Self-Coronation."

Rubert II died before he could complete the Self-Coronation — some opine that he abandoned the idea halfway through, and others say a scalpel stopped his cognition. The Scepter systems were also completely disabled during the Scholars' Strife, and to this day, they quietly drift through the darkness, reduced to no more than some war ruins that travelers visit, or piles of space trash awaiting clean-up.

Overview[]

The Scepters were created by Rubert II in order to expand his mind. The Scepters are an imitation of Nous, and was not given the ability to ask and question any other being.[1] These were also said to be the size of a planet.[2]

Emperor's Scepters[]

A colossal system amongst the collection of scepters, operated by antilife equations and created to simulate destruction scenarios.[3]

According to Herta and Screwllum, the world of Amphoreus is contained within an Emperor's Scepter,[3] which ended up being the cradle for the birth of the Lord Ravager Irontomb and the source of the planet's calamity.[4]

Abilities[]

The Scepters are able to do the following:

  • Annihilate a whole star system in a microsecond.[5][Note 1]
  • Change the future of a simulated world.[6]
  • Create a small planet by arranging and compressing magnetic field particles.[7]
  • Destroy all active Synesthesia Beacons in an area.[8]
  • Disrupt the laws of physics under specific circumstances.[9]
  • Expand one's cognition.[1]
  • Extrapolate the future.[10]
    • It is said for the Scepters to extrapolate the universe's future, it needs to be at least 2.799 times larger than the universe.[10]
    • When unstable factors in a local area exceeded a certain threshold, the extrapolation would become more accurate.[11]
  • Warp its internal time flow.[12]

History[]

Origins[]

Scepter δ-me13 was the first Scepter created by Rubert II, and it was also a part of Nous's divine corpus.[13]

Aftermath of the Second Emperor's War[]

When Rubert died, all Scepters were sealed down and lost their ability to communicate and produce the instantaneous decisions they made during the war.[14]

A Futurological Congress at Sipohia is held to decide the distribution of the Scepters based on the value of the scholars' project, and whoever could solve the problems of the future.[15]

The School of Interstellar Energy Resources proposes to use 95% of the Scepter's computational power to solve the four Cosmic Conundrums: Energy Source, Life, Integration, and Future.[16]

Patavia was granted a ten-thousandth of the Scepter's computational power.[17] Patavia also lost her allocations after it was revoked after Mollett sabotaged her experiments.[18]

Scholar Mollett gathers dozens of Scepters into the same star quadrant and physically connects them. Intending to carry out a multiplicative extrapolation effect and build a complete neural system. However, the inorganic cells constructed by the Emperor far surpass human intellect, and the scholars have no means of activating them.[19]

The creation of the Anti-Organic Virus results in the invasion of the Scepters by the Meniks. This was eventually quelled, but at the cost of destroying 122 Scepters.[20]

Patavia eventually discovers the Scepter system core as a hidden star.[21]

She connects her mind to the core, and all Scepters reform into a complete nervous system, ready to serve her as their new ruler, but doesn't crown herself because she thinks she is unworthy. Instead, she peers into the thoughts of Nous, being unable to comprehend THEIR thoughts and being unable to answer. The leaking thoughts overloads the Scepters, paralyzing them level by level.[1][22]

Eventually, the Scepters were completely crippled with the questions of the scholars. They are now currently reformed as tourist spots.[2][23]

Years later, the Genius Society member Screwllum came across an Emperor's Scepter which had evaded detection. The Scepter had warped its internal time flow and Screwllum devoted two Amber Eras to disarming it.[3]

Notes[]

  1. In the English text, the line is "Cells without sentience, weapons of massacre... The Emperor's sword that can annihilate a whole galaxy in a nanosecond." This is a mistranslation of the original Chinese, "无智慧的细胞,杀戮的兵器,能够在一微秒内湮灭整个恒星系的帝皇之剑", which more accurately reads as star system 星系 and microsecond 微秒.
