Rubert II was member #66 of Genius Society,[2] the successor of the Anti-Organic Equation and instigator of the Second Mechanical Emperor's War. He is said to have inherited the memories of Emperor Rubert.[3][Note 1]
Profile[]
Rubert II created the celestial-level computational interference devices, also known as the Scepter system. This system was widely distributed across the empire's domain to complete the observations, extrapolations, and interference orders passed on by him.[4]
Rubert II died before completing Self-Coronation, where some suggest that he abandoned that idea halfway through, while others say a scalpel stopped his cognition, which implies that he was killed by Polka Kakamond.[5]
After Rubert II's death, the IPC spent vast amounts of credits to repeatedly appraise his remains. This revealed that unlike his predecessor, Rubert II was organic.[6]
History[]
Following the death of Emperor Rubert I at the hands of Polka Kakamond, an unnamed human visited the Emperor's grave. During this visit, the individual succeeded in solving the mysterious Anti-Organic Equation. Although he had already derived the correct solution, he continued to re-derive it 5,368 times, achieving success on every attempt. Despite this remarkable feat, no one believed his claims, as he refused to reveal or activate the Equation's answer. After each derivation, however, the unnamed human reportedly experienced uncontrollable and intensely negative thoughts. It was during this period that he inherited the will and memories of the late Emperor Rubert I.[Note 1] Upon awakening to these memories, the man declared that “all organic life is an artificial machine created for deceptive purposes.” Following this revelation, he announced his intent to eradicate all organic life.[1]
Rubert II created the Scepter System as a means to expand his own cognition. He deprived the Scepters of any possibility of sentience by removing their ability to ask questions, yet granted them enough computational power to answer any question.[7] He later used the Scepters to ascend to the Cast Iron Throne and attempted to complete the Self-Coronation. However, he was stopped by Polka Kakamond and ultimately met his end. Following his death, Polka buried every trace of him — his past, his memories, his thoughts, and his motives — erasing all remnants of Rubert II from history.[8]
According to Lygus, much like many others, Rubert II also lacked any true free will and was merely a puppet guided by Nous and their Instants in the creation of the Scepters — experimental grounds for the Aeon. However, Lygus later admits that his assessment of Rubert II is largely conjecture, suggesting instead that Rubert II may have seen through Nous's manipulation, but "flew too close to the sun and lost his wings in the process."[8] Lygus further notes, in his conversation with Screwllum, Herta, and Anaxa, that both Rubert I and Rubert II could have ascended to the Throne of Destruction, but were thwarted by the Aeons' plot, ultimately becoming prisoners of Erudition. He also remarks that, despite being an organic being, Rubert II considered himself inorganic, implying that his thinking was heavily influenced by external forces.[9]

Notes[]
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 The English translation of the HoYoLAB article "Unveiling the Dangerous Members of the Genius Society" states: "Rubert was destroyed, and the Machine Empire crumbled with them. But though Rubert I was eliminated, their cognition returned as Rubert II's brain." This is inconsistent with other sources presented, including the original Chinese version of the article (「鲁珀特一世虽被弑灭, 但它的知识却借由二世的头脑重生。」) and the Rubert Empire Mechanical Cogwheel, which only mention Rubert II inheriting Rubert I's knowledge and memories.
