Crash on Deleting Object

Summary:

Inkscape crashes when I open this file and try to delete the ellipse object.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. open the attached crash_mwe.svg file on macOS, using Inkscape 1.3 (0e150ed6, 2023-07-21). NOTE: does NOT crash on Fedora Linux, Inkscape 1.3 (0e150ed6, 2023-07-21).
  2. close the extra New Document window that opens
  3. select the ellipse object
  4. perform any one of these interactions on the object:
  • try to delete it, using:
    • backspace key
    • delete key
    • Edit > Delete menu option
  • try to cut or copy it, using:
    • Cmd+X or Cmd+C keystrokes
    • Cut or Copy buttons on toolbar
    • Edit > Cut or Edit > Copy menu option

When I encounter this situation, a workaround I have found is to delete the ellipse using the XML Editor window. For some reason this avoids the crash and gets Inkscape past whatever the issue is -- until the next time it happens.

[EDIT:] With this MWE, for some reason I am finding that step 2 above is important. (Not sure if it always is or not.)

What happened?

Inkscape instantly crashes. Sometimes it gives a backtrace like the attached, sometimes it just freezes and no backtrace can be recovered.

Sample attachments:

This backtrace was obtained by trying to delete the object using the backspace key.
