Symbol and path effect caused crash

Summary:

A symbol from the Symbols list caused program to crash when adding a Path Effect was attempted.

Steps to reproduce:

• open Inkscape
• select Object/Symbols...
• select Symbol set/US national park...
• drag symbol into document
• select Path/Path Effects
• click Plus sign to Add path effect

What happened?

I dragged a symbol from US national park set - Bus Stop, black on white - onto document. While selected I clicked Path Effects from the Path menu. I clicked the Plus sign to Add path effect, a dialog box opened with nothing displayed and the program crashed (stopped working). Also happened when Path Effects was already opened and symbol was created second.

What should have happened?

The Live Path Effects Selector should have popped up and effects would be available. It worked fine with a rectangle that had been changed to a path (Path/Object to Path) and also worked with a rectangle that had been created without changing to a path.
