This is a followup to #436. After some discussion in the Kubernetes Slack with SIG-network (https://kubernetes.slack.com/archives/C09QYUH5W/p1729521715336479, see writeup by @lfrancke at https://docs.google.com/document/d/11KO8UkLB8mg-fmUjzOYJNez_3NAsZ83gyC2hArYUCEU/edit?tab=t.gldt32oscsiw#heading=h.gytw2o3uxath) the currently considered path forward is to write a KEP for exposing it via the downwards API.
