Summary
Attempt to fix #3663 (comment)
After renovate-bot upgraded maven-plugin-ap in May 2024, then the e2e test started failing regularly with the above linked error.
If this PR fixes the problem, we'll have to come up with a proper fix with the newer versions of the maven-plugin-api.

After merging, we will run the e2e testing workflow to confirm the fix
