Exclude the full Op.or test on Oracle.
If the a"b field and predicate are omitted, the remaining predicate { 'ab': 40 }` matches only Jane. The current assertion expects both John and Jane, so guarding only the field and predicate still leaves this test failing on Oracle.
Skip this test when the dialect does not support double quotes in identifiers. Apply the same Oracle guard to the model field, both create payloads, and the attributes table.

…in queries The attribute syntax parser (WHERE keys and `sql.attribute()`) only accepted `[A-Za-z0-9_]` in attribute and association names, while `ModelDefinition` only rejected names starting/ending with `$` or containing `.`, `::` or `->`. A model could therefore declare attributes such as `café`, `first-name` or `a b` that could not be referenced in a query (and `a:b` failed with a misleading "not a recognized built-in modifier" error). Both sides now share a single reserved set: `$`, `.`, `:`, `[`, `]` and control characters (U+0000-U+001F, U+007F). The grammar's `identifier` rule becomes `!( reserved )+`, and `ModelDefinition` rejects any attribute name containing one of these characters (anywhere, not only at the edges) with a single error message listing the reserved characters. The `->` check is kept as-is. Everything else (dashes, spaces, quotes, backticks, non-ASCII) is accepted: identifiers are always quoted in the generated SQL and only the dialect's delimiter is doubled. The cast/modifier name rule and the JSON key rules are unchanged: the cast type is inserted verbatim into SQL and must stay restricted. Tests cover the whole chain so the widening cannot introduce an injection: the parser (accepted hostile identifiers, rejected reserved & control characters with exact error indexes), `quoteIdentifier` output per dialect for hostile identifiers, WHERE SQL generated for a model declaring such attributes (with and without column name mapping), and a new integration test that syncs and queries such attributes on a real database. - Use ASCII values: the oldest mariadb image's default charset cannot store non-latin values (the attribute name in Japanese is what is being tested, not the value). - Oracle does not allow double quotes in identifiers at all (ORA-25716), so the `a"b` attribute now lives in its own model that is skipped on oracle. Description of change
Stacked on #18460.
A model could define attributes named
café,first-name,a bora:b(the validator only rejected names starting/ending with$or containing.,::,->), but such attributes could not be used as WHERE keys or insql.attribute(): the parser'sidentifierrule only accepted[A-Za-z0-9_], sowhere: { café: 1 }threw a parse error anda:bthrew a misleading "b is not a recognized built-in modifier". In Sequelize 6 these names worked because there was no parser. The grammar and the model-definition validator now share a single reserved set:
$,.,:,[,]and control characters (U+0000–U+001F, U+007F). Everything else is accepted in an attribute name, including dashes, spaces, quotes and non-ASCII characters, because attribute names are always quoted in the generated SQL.identifier ::= !( "$" | "." | ":" | "[" | "]" | control chars )+inattribute-syntax.ts; the association, JSON key and cast/modifier rules are unchanged (the cast type is inserted verbatim into SQL and stays restricted).ModelDefinitionrejects a name containing any reserved character with one message (this tightens the validator slightly:$in the middle of a name, a single:,[and]are now rejected at definition time). The->check is unchanged.RESERVED_ATTRIBUTE_NAME_CHARACTERS/findReservedAttributeNameCharacterare exported fromattribute-syntax.tsso both sides cannot drift.Security
Nothing from the attribute/association segment reaches SQL unquoted: it goes through
getColumnNameLooseandquoteIdentifier, which doubles the delimiter. This was verified on live postgres, mysql, mariadb and sqlite with hostile column names (a"b,a`b,a]b,a'b,a;b,a--b,a/*b,a\b, newlines, spaces, unicode). To make sure this stays true, the whole chain is now covered:test/unit/utils/attribute-syntax.test.ts: 45 non-reserved identifiers tested as attributes and in every position of$assoc.attr$, plus rejections for every reserved and control character with the exact error index (550 cases).test/unit/query-generator/quote-identifier.test.ts: hostile identifiers with explicit expectations per delimiter family.test/unit/sql/where.test.ts: models defining such attributes (with and withoutcolumnNamemapping) used in WHERE POJOs,sql.attribute, casts and association paths, asserting the exact SQL per dialect.test/unit/model/define.test.ts: the exact validator message for every reserved character; accepted names.test/integration/model/attributes/special-attribute-names.test.ts: defines, syncs, inserts and queries such attributes on every dialect.Docs
The "Attribute names cannot use syntax reserved by Sequelize" section of the upgrade guide is updated in a companion website PR.
