Welcome! There are several ways you can contribute to the Office Hours initiative – no coding skills required.
If you've never used GitHub before, don't worry. You mainly need to know two things:
- Issues are like discussion threads where you can propose topics or ask questions
- Files can be read directly in the browser – no installation needed
For a gentle introduction, the GitHub Quickstart guide takes about 10 minutes. Or simply reach out in the #training channel on WordPress Slack – we're happy to help.
The easiest way to get involved is to suggest a topic for a future meeting.
- Go to Issues → New Issue
- Select the Topic Proposal template
- Fill in the details and submit
Your proposal will appear on the Kanban Board in the Ideas column. The team will review it and move it to Planned when it's scheduled.
Good first contribution: Opening a topic proposal issue is a great way to get started. Look for issues tagged
good first issuefor other easy entry points.
After each meeting, a draft of the notes is posted as a comment on the meeting's agenda issue in the WordPress/Learn repository before being published on the Make WordPress Training blog. You have approximately 48 hours to suggest corrections.
How to suggest a correction:
- Open the agenda issue for the meeting in WordPress/Learn/issues (look for issues titled
Run and document Office Hours on [DATE]with the Office Hours label). - Add a comment on the issue with your suggested correction – quote the passage you're referring to so it's clear what needs changing.
- Alternatively, open a Document Correction issue and link to the agenda issue.
Once approved, the notes are published on make.wordpress.org/training.
We rotate moderators to share facilitation responsibility and help everyone build confidence.
- No experience required – templates and checklists are provided
- You don't need to be a Team Representative
- As moderator, you give everyone the floor; you choose three possible topics for the Tuesday meeting and announce the chosen one
- A co-moderator will always support you
- You moderate at most once every 3 months
- You can always decline without explanation
Express your interest in the #training Slack channel or by commenting on an upcoming meeting issue.
Found a typo, a broken link, or something that could be clearer? Open an Issue or submit a Pull Request. See the Pull Request template for what to include.
This repository is maintained by @rfluethi on behalf of the Make WordPress Training team. Decisions about the Office Hours format are made by the team via the weekly Tuesday meeting in the #training channel on WordPress Slack, with input from Team Representatives (Team Reps are elected contributors who speak for the team in the Make WordPress project).
Anyone can propose changes via Issues or Pull Requests. Significant format changes are discussed in the Tuesday meeting before being merged.
Backup maintainer: If the primary maintainer is unavailable, Team Reps from the Make WordPress Training team will be given repository access as needed. To become a maintainer, express your interest in #training on Slack.
