The new tab prompt appears in the editor status bar. But in PDE X, if the caret is on a line containing an error, the status already shows the error message. If the user tries to create a new tab, there's no way to detect if this action has been initiated by the user.

@benfry, Is there some way to detect if the new tab prompt is being displayed? If not, could it be added?
