[Bug]: Unable to render 60k record into phpmyadmin 5.2.3 #20422

Open

Description

Describe the bug

I have a query that I am trying to run in phpMyAdmin. It involves joins across 9 tables and 2 databases. The query takes a long time to execute and eventually times out. I have already increased the timeout limit to 1800 seconds, but I am still facing the same issue.

The same query works perfectly on my old server, which has the following configuration:

MySQL 5.5
PHP 5.5
phpMyAdmin 4.0
On the old server, the query executes in approximately 6 seconds and successfully displays all 60,000 records in phpMyAdmin.

However, I am facing this issue on my new server, which has the following configuration:

Ubuntu 26.04
MySQL 8.4
PHP 8.5
phpMyAdmin 5.2.3
The query that runs in 6 seconds on the old server is taking much longer on the new server and eventually times out.

When I tried to run query in mysql prompt it is working fine.

Could you please help me identify the reason for this difference and suggest how I can fix the issue? Is there any phpMyAdmin configuration I should check?

Thank you for your help.

    #20353 might have improved the situation, can you try the latest phpMyAdmin 5.2+snapshot?

    You don't need to uninstall the old version.

    Download and extract the snapshot, then edit the config.inc.php to configure it for your db.
    Then make it available in your webserver (copy it to your webroot, may be /var/www/html/ or add an alias config to your web server so it is available via url)

    Alternatively you can manually apply the changes from #20353 to your installed version.

    Can you share the query and tables' structure?
    Are you actually trying to show all ~60000 records at once?

    While the query is executing in phpMyAdmin, try running:
    SHOW FULL PROCESSLIST a few times to figure out which query(s) in phpMyAdmin are actually taking so long. Could be one slow query or a lot of smaller ones.

    You can also try this: #18728 (comment)

    @mahendramcoders please run this from MySQL console, as @M393 said, while you run your query in phpMyAdmin. This will help to understand what phpMyAdmin appends to your query.

    SHOW FULL PROCESSLIST;

    Also, if you can enable query logging in my.ini:

    [mysqld]
    general_log = 1
    general_log_file = /var/log/mysql/mysql.log

    Alternatively, if you can share the query and dummy tables if possible would be much better.

    @M393 I suspect there's a COUNT(*) or LIMIT that phpMyAdmin adds to the query, that might run a few thousand times (because his query is not optimized). I ran into it a few times, for example #16808

    Hi, My query is executing quickly in nysql terminal and also executing on phmytadmin also but I need to 60k record in phpmyadmin that html rendering getting issue. So can you share fix.

    So you mean you are not using paging and you are displaying all 60k rows at once?
