Without this change it is not possible to compile the examples.
Without this the example cannot be linked (chess engine has missing dependancies).

Just a couple of changes I had to make to get some of the example programs to compile. I've kept this separate from the i2c-dev work to allow you to pull (or not) each of the bits of work independently.
