Summary

  • Added @modelcontextprotocol/steering-committee as owners of the /docs directory
  • Maintained @modelcontextprotocol/core-maintainers ownership for /docs/specification (more specific path takes precedence)
  • This allows the steering committee to review and approve changes to general documentation while keeping specification changes restricted to core maintainers

Test plan

  • Verify that changes to files in /docs (but not /docs/specification) request review from steering committee
  • Verify that changes to files in /docs/specification still request review from core maintainers
  • Confirm GitHub recognizes the CODEOWNERS file syntax is valid

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

This change adds the @modelcontextprotocol/steering-committee as owners
of the general /docs directory while maintaining the more restrictive
@modelcontextprotocol/core-maintainers ownership for /docs/specification.

@dsp-ant A good one to test for the bullet:

  • Verify that changes to files in /docs (but not /docs/specification) request review from steering committee

This update to the docs about sampling. It currently calls for:

Screenshot 2025-07-16 at 5 52 33 PM

It has a /docs change but also a /docs/specification change, so It should still require core-maintainer

This one about the tools, resources, and prompts all having title and description is only a /docs change. currently it's not asking for core-maintainers. Would be good to see that that continues to be the case.
