Profiled this on msgraph-sdk 1.58.0 (Python 3.11, Linux). Cold import of GraphServiceClient takes ~0.8–1.2 s and pulls in 546 modules.

Good news: the generated request builders are no longer the main cost (only 2 msgraph.generated modules are imported), so this has improved since the issue was opened. The remaining cost is transport/auth dependencies.

One concrete, easily fixable finding: msgraph_core/tasks/page_iterator.py has

from requests.exceptions import InvalidURL

This is the only use of requests in msgraph-core, and it drags the whole requests package (+ charset_normalizer) into every GraphServiceClient import — ~350 ms cumulative, roughly 20–25 % of cold import — in an SDK whose transport is httpx. Deferring that import into the method that raises it would cut import time with zero behavior change. Happy to send a PR to msgraph-sdk-python-core.

Meanwhile, a workaround for applications: defer the import to first use:
