We’re pleased to share that the Azure Databases extension for Visual Studio Code has been rebranded to the Azure Cosmos DB extension — focused exclusively on Azure Cosmos DB for NoSQL. Microsoft for Developers
Why this change?
What does this mean for existing users?
What about the other database support?
For folks using MongoDB (RU/vCore), Azure PostgreSQL, or DocumentDB there are now dedicated extensions:
Azure PostgreSQL extension for VS Code
https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=ms-ossdata.vscode-pgsql
DocumentDB extension (for MongoDB / DocumentDB scenarios)
https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=ms-azuretools.vscode-documentdb
We believe this is just the start of more improvements to come for Cosmos DB NoSQL tooling — smarter, faster, more aligned with what developers need.
