The current list of opensource and hosted monitoring tools has a great selection, but it can be a bit confusing knowing the focus area of each tool. I've categorized the existing tools (did not change the actual tools listed) to make it a bit easier to understand the speciality area of each tool.

hmm, I agree @itsderek23 that the laundry list of tools is difficult to parse. I'm going to merge this, and I will likely use it as a starting point to provide more detail on each of these services. More updates to come on this page

I didn't dig too far into individual tools, focusing more on how to think about combining sets of tools.
