This PR attempts to add some improvements to the docs:

• Use more modern syntax/features (short functions in 7.4 and throw as an expression in 8) to keep the examples concise
• Remove <?php
• Always use function imports
• Always use camelCase for variables
• Standardize the presentation of the example results
• Fix an example that would yield a parse error
• Fix several spelling and grammar errors
