We have 'gems' as a feature for enable/disable but there is also an alias 'gem' which works the same that we were missing.

This is covered in MRI test suite TestSyntax#test_syntax_{ext,lib,sample,test}.

This was extracted from #4308 so it can be displayed more prominently in release notes.
