This was causing a syntax error from the bash shell to be thrown. I am not sure how specific it is to my setup, but this should always work (I think?)

We had this problem in the past, but it should have been fixed already. Are you sure that you are using the most-current version of IPython?

Yes, this is a known issue which was fixed in #2126 (3b8d838). The fix will be included in the forthcoming 0.13.1 release, as well as in 0.14.

Ah yes. This was happening on an installation of the 0.13 release from
pypi.
